Waterbury, CT – (5/10/2011) – Emotions ran high at Waterbury's Municipal Stadium as both sides get it their all in this afternoon's Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Opening Round contest. Chestnut Hill College overcame an early pitching change to own the early advantage, before Post University fought back with two-out rallies in the fourth and fifth innings. The Griffins answered and reclaimed the lead in their next at-bat, but it all came down to the Eagles final turn at the plate. Using two hit-batsmen to their advantage, the Eagles ended the affair with two, two-out singles, 8-7. #3 Post University advances to meet #1 Dominican College, #2 Wilmington University, and #5 the University of the Sciences at Wilson Stadium in the league championship's double elimination round.

Chestnut Hill College (16-22) introduced themselves to the home crowd with a two-run first inning, as lead-off walks to sophomore Alex Latchum
(Warrington, PA) and junior second baseman Jesse Daywalt (Phoenixville, PA) yielded runs on a single from senior third baseman D.J. Santoro Jr. (Jeffersonville, PA), 2-0. Post University (23-16) got one back in the bottom of the first inning, turning a lead-off single into a run with a two-out error by the Griffin shortstop, 2-1. Daywalt would nudge the Griffins back to a two-run edge in the second inning by plating senior shortstop George Kochu (Pottstown, PA) on a single to right field, 3-1, but the Eagles cut into the deficit in the fourth inning with a two-out walk and a deep triple to center field, 3-2, before taking the lead with three runs in the fifth inning, 5-3. The Griffins immediately issued a response in the top of the sixth inning with three lead-off singles plating one run, a double from Daywalt scoring two more, and a single from  senior right fielder Dan Etherton (Princeton, NJ) leaving it at 7-5. The Eagles clawed for one run in their half of the sixth inning, 7-6, before tier dramatic final at-bat. The first batter reached on the Griffins fifth beam ball of the contest and eventually advanced to third base on a sacrifice bunt and a grounder to shortstop. Another hit-batsman put runners at the corners and after a defensive indifference both Eagles stood in scoring position; two tough grounders to third would bring both of them home and end the fray on an 8-7 final.

Daywalt led the Griffins with a three hits and three runs-batted-in (RBI) and senior catcher Andrew Donofry (Hatboro, PA) offered two hits.

The baseball team finishes the 2011 season with a 16-22 overall record and a 10-10 standing in CACC play.
