9/1/2012 5:08:00 PM

Box Score Lafayette Hill, Pa. – (9/1/2012) – Chestnut Hill College grabbed the lead twice in this afternoon's home opener against Millersville University, but the visiting Marauders answered each Griffin tally before a long strike from freshman defender Emily Purcell (Harrisburg, Pa.) provided the game-winner, 3-2, with 17:15 remaining on the clock. Juniors, forward Kaelyn Pizarro (Berlin, N.J.) and midfielder Carly DiGiovanni (Seaville, N.J.) led the Griffin effort, teaming on a give-and-go goal for the Griffins first tally, and Pizarro, forcing and finishing a second-half Marauder turnover.

After a 1-1 halftime break, Pizarro regained the lead for Chestnut Hill College (0-2), 2-1, pressuring the Millersville University (2-0) defense into a turnover before finishing a strike from center pitch, 65:52. Unfortunately, less the four minutes later the Marauders knotted the affair for a second time. Senior forward Chrissy McLaughlin (Reinholds, Pa.) set up the Marauders second game-tying-goal, finding sophomore midfielder Felicia Cramer (New Bloomfield, Pa.), who touched the ball to sophomore forward Kelsey Mattola (Monkton, Md.) for the strike, 2-2 (69:28). A little more than three minutes later, the Marauder momentum facilitated another tally, 3-2, with Purcell netting a 30-yard strike to deliver the game-winner (72:45) in the 73rd-minute.

Freshman forward Megan Kelley (Towamencin, Pa.) and the Marauders attack kept Griffin senior goalkeeper, Jessica Veazey (Middletown, Del.) busy in the opening half. Kelley, Mattola, and McLaughlin recorded five shots apiece, Kelley put four on goal. Freshman goalkeeper Olivia Webber (Bernville, Pa.) made three saves and teamed with the Marauder defense to earn the win (2-0) and overcome the Griffin attack.

DiGiovanni and Pizarro headlined the Griffin scoring opportunities. DiGiovanni totaled four shots, putting three on goal and scoring off Pizarro's feed. Pizarro supplied three strikes, including her unassisted tally. Veazey was stellar in an active first half, making seven saves on 15 Marauders attempts. She totaled 11 saves in today's loss (0-2).
