Philadelphia, Pa. – (9/7/2012) – The Chestnut Hill College women's tennis team earned their second Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) victory in as many days with a 9-0 victory over Caldwell College this afternoon. The Griffins breezed through doubles play before completing the sweep of the Cougars with six singles wins.
Chestnut Hill College (3-0, 2-0) grabbed an early 3-0 lead over Caldwell College (0-2, 0-1) with three strong wins in doubles play. Senior
Anastasiya Shcherbakova (Belarus, Minsk) and junior
Kelly Dennis (Cincinnati, Ohio) won number one doubles 8-1, while freshmen
Iman Williams-Mulesa (Pickering, Ontario) and
Axe Owens (Trenton, N.J.) won by the same score at number two doubles. Making her collegiate debut, freshman
Hayley Craskey (Aston, Pa.) teamed with junior
Olivia Stevenson (Philadelphia, N.Y.) for an 8-0 win at number three doubles.
The Griffins faired just as well in singles play with only the fourth flight lasting three sets. Owens lost the opening set with sophomore Briana Gaspich (Brick, N.J.) 6-3, before winning next two sets 7-6 and 7-6. At number one singles, Shcherbakova won 6-2, 6-2. Sophomore
Morgan Oechsle (Coopersburg, Pa.) took number two singles 6-0, 6-3. Williams-Mulesa won number three singles in an 8-0 pro-set. Sophomore
Alexis Puhl (Philadelphia, Pa.) took number five singles 6-1, 6-0, and also making her collegiate debut, freshman
Leanna Burke (New Holland, Pa.) earned an 8-1 pro-set victory at number six singles.
The women's tennis team continues CACC play with their home opener, a 4:00 p.m. opening serve against Georgian Court University is scheduled for Tuesday, September 11.
