Philadelphia, Pa. – (10/19/2013) – The Chestnut Hill College women's tennis team wasted little time advancing to the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Championship as they dispatched #4 Philadelphia 5-0 in the first semifinal match of today's tournament competition at the Chestnut Hill College Tennis Courts. With the win, the Griffins advance to the CACC Championship where they will rematch #2 Concordia College (NY) for the league crown; the Clippers topped Goldey-Beacom College 5-4 in a 5:17 minute five-hour, 17-minute semifinal.
The first dominos to fall for Chestnut Hill College (13-1) came at number two doubles and number three doubles, where the Griffins took the match's first two points with wins of 8-2 and 8-1, respectively. Senior
Kelly Dennis (Cincinnati, Ohio) and sophomore
Iman Williams-Mulesa (Pickering, Ontario) were the victors in the second flight, while junior
Morgan Oechsle (Coopersburg, Pa.) and sophomore
Hayley Craskey (Aston, Pa.) were responsible for the third-flight win. Philadelphia University (11-5) looked to get on the scoreboard in the top team flight with freshman Emily Chung (Manhattan Beach, Calif.) and senior Isabella Espinosa (Quito, Ecuador) delaying junior
Charlotte Dawson (Odessa, Texas) and freshman
Marie Deleval (Grimaud, France) to an 8-6 victory.
After earning the doubles sweep the Griffins needed only two singles wins to bring the match to a close. They did so at number five singles and number four singles, where Oechsle and Dennis earned points with wins of 6-0, 6-1 and 6-1, 6-1, respectively.
In a replay of the 2012 CACC Championship, the women's tennis team will look the capture their first CACC crown in a 12:00 p.m. match against the Clippers.
