Philadelphia, Pa. – (10/2/2013) – With this evening's 7-2 defeat of Goldey-Beacom College, the Chestnut Hill College women's tennis team secured a spot in the upcoming Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Championship Tournament. Thanks to a sweep of doubles play and victories in the top four singles flights the Griffins will look to secure their first league championship on their home courts.
Junior
Charlotte Dawson (Odessa, Texas) and freshman
Marie Deleval (Grimaud, France) earned the first point for Chestnut Hill College (7-1, 6-0) with their 8-1 win at number one doubles. Their teammates followed suit at number two doubles and number three doubles as junior
Morgan Oechsle (Coopersburg, Pa.) and sophomore
Hayley Craskey (Aston, Pa.) earned the point at number three doubles, 8-6, before senior
Kelly Dennis (Cincinnati, Ohio) and sophomore
Iman Williams-Mulesa (Pickering, Ontario) took care of the doubles sweep with their 8-4 win at number two doubles.
In singles play, the Griffins wasted no time taking care of business as they rattled off the round's first three victories in route to a 7-2 victory. Dawson earned the first individual point with her 7-5, 6-3 win in the top flight, 4-0. Williams-Mulesa was next with a 6-1, 6-1 win at number two doubles, 5-0, and the third flight went to Deleval by a 7-6 (8-6), 6-2, clinching the victory, 6-0. Goldey-Beacom College (5-2, 3-2) finally got on the scoreboard with a 2-6, 6-2, 6-2 win at number five singles, 7-1, but their success came too late. The final two individual flights were split with Dennis taking number four singles 6-4, 5-7, 10-6 and the Lightning taking the number six singles 6-3, 4-6, 6-1.
The women's tennis team takes a break from their CACC schedule for a 1:00 p.m. match at Adelphi University on Friday, October 4.
