Marykate McShane (Lebanon, Pa.) cut the gap to one, but two more home scores left the Griffins with the loss.
Chestnut Hill College (4-10-1, 4-5-1) had the affair's first scoring opportunity with a corner kick midway through the second minute (1:24). The attempt was unsuccessful and a little more than two minutes later (3:47), Holy Family University (7-5-3, 5-1-3) cashed in on their first shot when freshman forward Ursula Coyle (Philadelphia, Pa.) crossed the ball to freshman forward Ashley Shackelford (Burlington, N.J.) for a score to the left side of the net at 3:47, 1-0. Two minutes later a headed corner kick found sophomore forward Jenna Richards (Croydon, Pa.), who extended the Tigers early lead to 2-0. Junior midfielder
Leanna Ashcom (Philadelphia, Pa.) took the Griffins only shot of the period a couple minutes before halftime, but it was deflected from its course by the Tiger defense.
After halftime the Tigers wasted no time adding to their lead, scoring again on their first shot of the period, when freshman forward Brittany Robinson (Philadelphia, Pa.) converted a pass from freshman Bianca Richardson (Turnersville, N.J.) at 45:20, 3-0. The Griffins rallied following the third Tiger tally. Junior midfielder
Katherine Williams (Pennsauken, N.J.) led the Griffins retaliation, but it would be DiGiovanni who would break the shutout with a strike from the right side at 61:33, 3-1. McShane's score at 82:07 threatened the Tigers advantage, as the Griffins continued to battle the home team until cutting the margin to 3-2 on a strike to the upper left corner of the net. Unfortunately, the Tigers had a few more tricks for the Griffins. They scored a loose ball at 87:40, 4-2, and added a fifth score just thirty seconds later (88:13) on another Robinson shot.
The Tigers spread the shots around with 12 different players contributing to a 19-9 shot advantage. Robinson scored on both of hers while freshman goalkeeper Sienna Smith (Pottsville, Pa.) made two saves in the win (7-5-3).
