Philadelphia, Pa. – (10/8/2013) – Completing their Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) schedule and securing the top seed in the upcoming CACC Championship Tournament, Chestnut Hill College shutout Philadelphia University 9-0 in this afternoon's match. The Griffins swept both doubles and singles play to go undefeated in CACC for the first time in program history and get their best chance to earn a league championship on their home courts.
Chestnut Hill College (11-1, 8-0) welcomed Philadelphia University (8-4, 2-3) with a swift round of doubles competition. Junior
Charlotte Dawson (Odessa, Texas) and freshman
Marie Deleval (Grimaud, France) won number one doubles, 8-4. Senior
Kelly Dennis (Cincinnati, Ohio) and sophomore
Iman Williams-Mulesa (Pickering, Ontario) were the victors in the second team flight, 8-2. Junior
Morgan Oechsle (Coopersburg, Pa.) and sophomore
Hayley Craskey (Aston, Pa.) claimed number three doubles, 8-3.
Singles play came just as easy for the home side, who won in all individual flights as well. Dawson won the Griffins a point at number one singles with her 6-1, 6-0 victory. Williams-Mulesa scored at number two singles 6-2, 6-1. Deleval claimed number three singles 6-2, 6-2. Oechsle secured number four singles 6-0, 6-2. Sophomore
Axe Owens (Trenton, N.J.) won number five singles 6-2, 6-1. Craskey triumphed at number six singles 6-1, 6-3.
The women's tennis team will compete next with the men at West Chester University on Friday, October 11, while that await the 10:00 a.m. semifinal match of the CACC Championship Tournament, scheduled for Saturday, October 19.
