Box Score 2 Norristown, Pa. – (4/13/2013) – Allowing only seven hits in this afternoon's Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) doubleheader, senior pitcher
Robert Hopkins (Philadelphia, Pa.) and freshman pitcher
Zachary Crim (Horsham, Pa.) rendered the Nyack College bats useless. In support of Hopkins, junior center fielder
Desmond Lites (Philadelphia, Pa.) singled home the winning run in the seventh inning of the opener, 3-2, while in game two Crim and graduate pitcher
Micah Winterstein (Philadelphia, Pa.) combined for a two-hit shutout, 3-0.
In game two, Crim (1-2) had Nyack College (8-16, 5-6) stymied, striking out seven while walking one and allowing two hits over seven innings. Meanwhile, a fourth-inning, two-run double from senior shortstop
Joseph Crane (Churchville, Pa.) and run-scoring double from junior third baseman
Raymond Puskar (Green Lane, Pa.) in the sixth frame gave Chestnut Hill College (13-19, 6-8) a 3-0 advantage. Puskar went 3-for-3 in the contest. Winterstein pitched the final two innings for the Griffins and struck out two for his second save of the afternoon (3).
The opener offered more drama with the Warriors tying the contest at 2-2 on a sixth-inning two-out single. In the bottom of the seventh inning, Crane led-off with a single to center field. He moved to second base on a sacrifice from senior left fielder
Joseph Mullin (Warrington, Pa.), and scored on Lites' clutch single up the middle, 3-2. Hopkins went eight strong in the win (3-4), allowing two runs on five hits and a walk. He struck out six. Crane and Lites each recorded two hits and a run-batted-in (RBI).
The baseball team continues their CACC schedule at Latshaw-McCarthy Field on Tuesday, April 16, with a 3:00 p.m. doubleheader against the University of the Sciences.
