Singles Wins Secure CACC Victory For Men’s Tennis

Philadelphia, Pa. – (4/2/2013) – Resuming Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) play this afternoon, Chestnut Hill College claimed a 6-3 victory at the University of the Sciences (USciences) today. The Griffins claimed the bottom two doubles match ups from the Devils to take a 2-1 advantage into individual play. There, the Griffins posted victories at number one, number four, number five, and number six singles to seize their third league victory, 6-3.
 
Chestnut Hill College (12-5, 3-0) claimed the match's first two points with sophomore Michael Humes (Mount Laurel, N.J.) and junior Manuel Ceniceros (Mexico City, Mexico) teaming for an 8-3 win at number three doubles, 1-0, just before junior Anthony Moore (Williamstown, N.J.) and freshman Kevin Taylor (Burlington, N.J.) combined for an 8-5 win at number two doubles. USciences (5-5, 2-2) avoided a shutout in the round with an 8-3 victory at number one doubles.
 
The Devils aimed to reverse fortunes, briefly taking the lead 3-2 with the first two points of singles play coming in their favor at number three singles 6-2, 3-6, 11-9, and number two singles 6-1, 6-7 (5-7), 10-8. But soon after, Humes tied the match back up at 3-3 with his 7-6 (7-3), 6-3 win at number one singles to ignite his fellow Griffins for victories in the remaining three individual flights, 6-3. Taylor won number four singles 6-2, 6-1, Ceniceros took number five singles 6-1, 6-1, and sophomore Sammy Atri (Mexico City, Mexico) claimed number six singles, 8-6.
 
The men's tennis team continues their CACC schedule on Friday, April 5, with a 3:30 p.m. match at Philadelphia University.
