Box Score 2 Caldwell, N.J. – (4/20/2013) – Gathering momentum heading toward a possible Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) postseason appearance, Chestnut Hill College collected, in dominant fashion, two much-needed wins at Caldwell College, 20-6 and 11-0. Although the Griffins gave him plenty of support, sophomore pitcher
Dominic Raia III (Philadelphia, Pa.) needed little in game two, as he came within a walk of a perfect game for the programs first no-hit performance. The Griffins got contribution up and down the line-up in game two, headlining the list was senior catcher
Timothy DiMonte (Downingtown, Pa.), who totaled four runs-batted-in (RBI) as one of three Griffins with three hits.
Caldwell College (8-24, 6-8) owned a 3-1 lead after the opener's first three innings, but a six-run Chestnut Hill College (16-20, 9-9) fourth inning and a 11-run sixth inning helping facilitate the Griffins 20-6 triumph. The fourth inning began with a lead-off single down the left field line from freshman designated hitter
Brendan Looby (Sewell, N.J.). A one-out walk to sophomore second baseman
Taylor Steen (New Egypt, N.J.) put two Griffins on base, a double steal moved them into scoring position for a two-run single from senior shortstop
Joseph Crane (Churchville, Pa.), 3-3. After an out, a Cougar error, and stolen base, and a sacrifice, the Griffins platted one and were primed to score again, 4-3. DiMonte and sophomore right fielder
Michael McLaughlin (Philadelphia, Pa.) would provide the punches with back-to-back doubles producing three more Griffin runs, 7-3. The bomb bay doors opened in the sixth inning with 11 runs on nine hits and a Cougar error, 18-3. The home side got three runs back in the bottom of the frame, 18-6, but the Griffins would score two more before the affair was over, 20-6.
Raia raced through the Cougars in game two. Blending in eight strikeouts through his no-hitter, he allowed his only base runner with a seventh-inning, one-out walk to junior second baseman Paul Nyitray (Cranford, N.J.). Meanwhile junior third baseman
Raymond Puskar (Green Lane, Pa.) connected for his first homerun of the season, walked twice, and drove in four runs to headline the Griffins continued slugging streak. Also of note, Steen record four hits (4-for-6) and an RBI, while senior left fielder
Joseph Mullin (Warrington, Pa.) brought home three runs with three hits (3-for-4).
The baseball team briefly breaks from their CACC schedule to visit Millersville University for a 3:00 p.m. contest on Tuesday, April 23.
