Griffins No Match For Marauders

4/23/2013 8:46:00 PM

Box Score Millersville, Pa. – (4/23/2013) – Millersville University used a seven-run third inning and a four-hit pitching effort to outperform Chestnut Hill College, 13-1, in this afternoon's road contest. Senior pitcher Pat Kelley (Lancaster, Pa.) kept the Griffins off the scoreboard until the Griffins manufactured an eighth-inning tally on a fielder's choice from freshman designated hitter Brendan Looby (Sewell, N.J.).

Errors hurt Chestnut Hill College (16-21) early as Millersville University (30-12) scored a run in the first inning with a two-out miscue and a triple to left field, 1-0, before producing seven more runs on five hits and a third-inning Griffin error. The eight-run lead, 8-0, was plenty for Kelly who only allowed two hits and two walks in the first six innings. The Griffins got on the scoreboard in the eighth inning with a lead-off walk to junior center fielder Desmond Lites (Philadelphia, Pa.) resulting in a run after a singles from senior catcher Timothy DiMonte (Downingtown, Pa.) and freshman first baseman Patrick Campion (Norristown, Pa.) allowed him to score on Looby's one-out grounder to the shortstop, 13-1.

The Marauders hit across the lineup, but freshman left fielder Jeremy Musser (Shippensburg, Pa.) did the most damage with three hits (3-for-4), a run, and four runs-batted-in (RBI). Kelley struck out five in the win (2-0).

Junior third baseman Raymond Puskar (Green Lane, Pa.) singled in the first inning and Looby singled in the sixth inning to account for the Griffins other two hits. In relief, junior John Bernhardt III (Lafayette Hill, Pa.) and sophomore Seamus Finnegan (Collegeville, Pa.) provided the Griffins only scoreless frames.

The baseball team returns to Latshaw-McCarthy Field tomorrow, Wednesday, April 24, for a 6:00 p.m. contest against Kutztown University.
