Box Score Norristown, Pa. – (4/24/2013) – Early offense gave Kutztown University a head start in today's contest at Latshaw-McCarthy Field, but it took five runs between the fourth and fifth innings for the Golden Bears to eventually put Chestnut Hill College to rest, 9-4. Juniors, third baseman Raymond Puskar (Green Lane, Pa.) and center fielder Desmond Lites (Philadelphia, Pa.) each recorded two hits; Lites was the catalyst, knocking in the Griffins first run and becoming the second in the third inning, before bringing home the third run home with a seventh-inning double.
 
Kutztown University (27-9) scored a run in each of their first three at-bats, 3-0, but with a productive bottom of the third inning Chestnut Hill College (16-22) drew within one of the visitors. An error by the Golden Bear third baseman started the inning, allowing junior left fielder Joseph Mullin (Warrington, Pa.) to reach before advancing to second base on the errant throw. Lites' single to right center brought Mullin around for the first Griffin tally, 3-1, and after stealing second base Lites moved to third on a sacrifice bunt from senior catcher Timothy DiMonte (Downingtown, Pa.). Following a strikeout, Lites continued to play heads-up baseball, scampering home on a wild pitch before the Golden Bears ended the frame on a grounder back to the pitcher, 3-2.
 
Unfortunately, the Griffins would not have another chance to pull even with the Golden Bears, who extended their lead to 8-2 by the end of the fifth inning on three runs in the fourth, 6-2, and two in the fifth. In the seventh, a lead-off walk to sophomore second baseman Taylor Steen (New Egypt, N.J.) produced a run after he stole second base and crossed the plate on Lites' double to left field, 8-3. But, with each side adding a run in the eighth inning the Griffins would get no closer, 9-4.
 
The baseball team plays next at Felician College on Saturday, April 27, when they complete their Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) schedule with a 4:00 p.m. doubleheader against the Golden Falcons.
