4/28/2013 12:09:00 AM

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2  East Rutherford, N.J. – (4/27/2013) – Felician College stole this evening's opener with a walk-off fielder's choice, but Chestnut Hill College would get revenge in the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) doubleheader with a 7-0 shutout in game two. Continuing to command the rubber, sophomore pitcher Dominic Raia III (Philadelphia, Pa.) struck out eight while earning a program-record, sixth win in game two.

Raia extended his scoreless streak to 16 consecutive innings with seven innings of scoreless baseball in game two of today's twin bill. While Raia mowed Felician College (18-27, 10-10) down, Chestnut Hill College (17-23, 10-10) built a 7-0 advantage with a four-run first inning, two runs in the fourth, and a run in the fifth. In the first inning, two Golden Falcon errors and a run-scoring grounder to shortstop from freshman designated hitter Brendan Looby (Sewell, N.J.) brought the Griffins a 4-0 advantage. A fourth-inning, lead-off walk to senior shortstop Joseph Crane (Churchville, Pa.) turned into two more Griffin runs with a single from senior catcher Timothy DiMonte (Downingtown, Pa.), 5-0, and a two-out single from juniors third baseman Raymond Puskar (Green Lane, Pa.), 6-0. In the fifth inning, the Griffins extended their lead to 7-0 with a lead-off triple from junior center fielder Desmond Lites (Philadelphia, Pa.) turned into another run on a Crane single to center field. Puskar and DiMonte recorded two hits in the win, while Crane knocked in three runs.

Game one was scoreless through four innings, before sophomore right fielder Michael McLaughlin (Philadelphia, Pa.) hustled home on a fifth-inning wild pitch to give the Griffins the initial advantage, 1-0. The Golden Falcons evened the pitcher's duel in the seventh inning with a one-out single and an error allowing them to pull even on an unassisted ground-out to first base, 1-1. Senior pitcher Robert Hopkins (Philadelphia, Pa.) struck out nine without allowing an earned run on six hits and three walks, but after the eighth inning the game was turned over to the bullpens. In the tenth inning it would be the home team who came away victorious, when a lead-off single became the winning run on grounder to third base, an intentional walk, and an incomplete double play, 2-1. Freshman first baseman Patrick Campion (Norristown, Pa.) led the Griffin offense with two hits.

The baseball team will wait for seeding in the upcoming CACC Championship Tournament while they host West Chester University in their final home contest of the season on Tuesday, April 30. Following annual Senior Day recognition, first pitch is scheduled for 6:00 p.m.
