Philadelphia, Pa. – (9/23/2013) – Junior
Steven Say (Cannes, France) had two chances at an Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) East Regional Championship today, he came away with one in the Men's B Singles Draw after defeating the New York Institute of Technology's (NYIT) junior Nicolas Jubera (La Rioja, Spain) 6-3, 6-1. He also teamed with classmate
Michael Humes (Medford, N.J.) to challenge Caldwell College's freshman Maximilian Ziegler (Erfurt, Germany) and sophomore Andrei Bozovic (Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina) in a Men's B Doubles final.
Say and Humes carried the Chestnut Hill College torch past Adelphi University, 8-3, Post University, 8-1, Philadelphia University, 8-5, and Southern New Hampshire University (SNHU), 8-3, before facing the Cougar duo for Men's B Doubles Draw. After losing the opening set to the Cougars, 6-2, Say and Humes battled back and evened the match by the same score, 6-2. Unfortunately, Ziegler and Bozovic proved the better pair, taking the draw with a 10-6 victory in the tiebreaker.
Say emerged from the top half of the Men's B Singles Draw with individual victories over competitors from Post University, 8-5, Assumption College, 8-2, and Roberts Weslyan College, 8-6 on the first two days of competition at the Legacy Youth Tennis and Education Center. On the final day of play, Say first defeated SNHU's senior Alex Mukdaprakorn (Hartford, Conn.) 8-1, before continuing a strong tournament resume with a 6-3, 6-1 championship-victory over Jubera.
