Alexandra DePalma (Shillington, Pa.) who led a Griffin effort that challenged Franklin Pierce University and Holy Family University to 3-1 finals; 25-20, 16-25, 25-22, 25-16, and 28-26, 27-29, 25-18, 25-23, respectively.
In the early match against Franklin Pierce University, Chestnut Hill College (0-3) recovered from a 25-20 opening set with a 25-16 win in the second frame, 1-1. Unfortunately, the Griffins rally turned into an interruption rather than momentum shift as the Ravens wrestled away the victory with wins of 25-22 and 25-16 in the next two sets. DePalma added an ace, 14 digs, and two blocks to her team-high 16 kills. She was complimented by freshman outside hitter
Madison McBride (Long Beach, Calif.), 14 kills and ten digs, and sophomore middle hitter
Rachel Biro (Nazareth, Pa.), 11 kills and a block, and all were supported by 43 assists and six digs from freshman setter
Emily Drew (Ringoes, N.J.). Defensively, freshman libero
Regina Trabosh (Norristown, Pa.) and middle hitter
Mary Markowski (Parkton, Md.) captained the Griffins with 21 digs and six blocks, respectively.
The Griffins were second-set victors in the second match as well, unfortunately, Holy Family University was the winner in today's non-conference encounter. This time DePalma backed her 16 kills with 12 digs. McBride killed 12 balls, dug 14, and blocked 3 in another strong performance while sophomore
Alyssa Tamsing (Ventura, Calif.) played the point and contributed 38 assists, seven digs, and a block to the Griffins production. Trabosh hustled to 34 digs in the contest.
The women's volleyball team returns to Sorgenti Arena on Wednesday, September 11, for a 7:00 p.m. home and Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) opener against Wilmington University.
