Box Score Philadelphia, Pa. - (11/8/2014) – Chestnut Hill College sent captain
Kaitlyn Schock (Allentown, Pa.) out on a high note this afternoon, closing out the 2014 season with a 3-1 (25-12, 25-22, 19-25, 25-22) Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) victory over visiting Concordia College (NY). Junior captain
Rachel Biro (Nazareth, Pa.) led the way with 23.0 points on 22 kills and a pair of block assists, while Schock offered eight kills without an error in her final collegiate match.
Eager to snap a four-match skid and end the season with a bang, Chestnut Hill College (14-16, 9-10) jumped all over Concordia College (4-17, 3-16) right after the conclusion of Senior Day ceremonies, seizing a 10-4 lead in the first set en route to a 25-12 rout, 1-0.
The Clippers began to right the ship in the second set, keeping the Griffins at arm's length and gaining a 20-14 advantage. Chestnut Hill College rallied from there, winning the next five points, 20-19, before pulling even at 21-21 and again at 22-22 on a kill by Biro. With junior
Alyssa Tamsing (Ventura, Calif.) serving, the Griffins closed out the set, 25-22, on a 3-0 spurt facilitated by a trio of attack errors by the Clippers.
Concordia College thwarted the Griffins hopes for a sweep, holding off the home side for a 25-19 decision in the third set, 2-1. Chestnut Hill College looked poised to run away with the fourth set, surging to an 18-9 lead. However, the Clippers responded with an 11-2 run to match the Griffins at 20-20. But back-to-back kills by sophomore outside hitter
Madison McBride (Long Beach, Calif.) and Biro gave the Griffins some breathing room, and after a kill by Concordia College's Liliana Gonzalez (Barceloneta, P.R.), Biro produced consecutive kills to hand Chestnut Hill College a match point, 24-21. The Clippers staved off defeat once, but a service error ended the fourth set and the match, 25-22.
Freshman outside hitter Sydney Darden (Marietta, Ga.) led four Clippers in double-digits with 17 kills and added 17 digs. Senior middle blocker Samantha Kurtzke (Montvale, N.J.) offered 13 kills, and middle blockers, junior Zoe Mannino (Spring Hill, Fla.) and freshman Katharina Birgmeir (Munich, Germany) logged 11 and 10, respectively. Freshman setter Jenny Martin (Simi Valley, Calif.) facilitated the offense with 46 assists and chipped in 13 digs, while freshman libero Celine Arada (San Francisco, Calif.) paced five players in double figures in digs (23).
Biro finished with 22 kills on the afternoon, increasing her single-season program record to 410. McBride supported her with a strong effort, posting a double-double with 15 kills and 12 digs. Schock, the lone senior on the Chestnut Hill College roster, played an error-free match and had a solo block to total 9.0 points in her last collegiate match.
Tamsing guided the Griffin attack with 44 assists, and sophomore libero
Regina Trabosh (Norristown, Pa.) contributed a match-high 31 digs to lead the defensive effort. Junior
Meghan Chiovitti (Brighton, Colo.) and freshman
Peyton Reno (Wilmington, DE) had 10 digs apiece, and freshman
Melissa Shunk (Laguna Niguel, Calif.) had four kills and assisted on four blocks. Chiovitti, McBride, and junior outside hitter
Justine Ganan (San Diego, Calif.) each had two aces.
