Men’s Tennis Records Win with Sweep of Spartans

Flourtown, Pa. – (3/11/2014) – Chestnut Hill College returned to action today, March 11, with a 9-0 sweep of St. Thomas Aquinas College. Due to court conditions the match was relocated to the courts at Mount St. Joseph's Academy, where the Griffins easily disposed the Spartans in both singles and doubles play.
 
Chestnut Hill College (7-3) took the court as pairs for the first round of competition against STAC (3-7). In the top team flight, senior Yoann Pham (Boulogne-Billancourt, France) and junior Steven Say (Cannes, France) earned the point with an 8-2 victory. Freshmen Mariano Porter (Cuemacava, Mexico) and Pedro Oranges (Sao Paulo, Brazil) won number two doubles 8-3, while senior Anthony Moore (Williamstown, N.J.) and junior Kevin Taylor (Burlington, N.J.) teamed up for an 8-1 win a number three doubles.
 
In singles play, the Griffins ran away with the match. Porter claimed number one singles without surrendering a point, 6-0, 6-0. Pham secured number two singles 6-4, 6-1. Say won number three singles 6-1, 6-0. Junior Michael Humes (Mount Laurel, N.J.) was victorious 6-0, 6-2 at number four singles. Moore won number five singles 6-1, 6-0, while senior Manuel Ceniceros (Mexico City, Mexico) reflected Porter triumph with a 6-0, 6-0 win at number six singles.
 
The men's team will open their Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) schedule with their next match; a 2:00 p.m. opening serve is schedule for Friday, March 21, at Post University.
