Middlebury, Conn. – (3/21/2014) – Chestnut Hill College started off their 2014 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) with today's 8-1 victory at Post University. The Griffins swept doubles play and overcame the Eagles in all except number three singles en route to the conference win.
Chestnut Hill College (8-3) took the top two team flights by 8-3 finals with senior
Yoann Pham (Boulogne-Billancourt, France) and junior
Steven Say (Cannes, France) won number one doubles and freshmen
Mariano Porter (Cuemacava, Mexico) and
Pedro Oranges (Sao Paulo, Brazil) followed suit at number two doubles. Senior
Anthony Moore (Williamstown, N.J.) and junior
Kevin Taylor (Burlington, N.J.) completed the sweep with an 8-5 victory at number three doubles.
In the individual round, Porter led off the lineup with his 6-2, 6-0 win at number one singles. Junior
Michael Humes (Mount Laurel, N.J.),
Manuel Ceniceros (Mexico City, Mexico) and junior
Sammy Atri (Mexico City, Mexico) followed with wins at number two singles, 6-3, 6-0, number four singles, 6-0, 6-2, and number five singles, 6-2, 6-4, respectively. While the Griffins only loss came at number three singles, 0-6, 7-6, 10-8, junior
Devin Hampton (Midland, Texas) found a hard fought victory at number six singles 5-7, 6-0, 10-6.
The men's team continues their road trip tomorrow, Saturday, March 22, with a 1:00 p.m. non-conference match at Dowling College.
