Box Score 2 Lafayette Hill, Pa. – (3/22/2014) – Itching to get back on the field, Chestnut Hill College came away with a win in both ends of today's Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) doubleheader with Concordia College (NY). In the opener, junior pitcher
Dominic Raia III (Philadelphia, Pa.) improved to 2-0 with nine strikeouts as the Griffins earned thier 100th victory in a 12-4 final. The Griffin bats continued in the second contest, erupting for a seven-run seventh inning to take the nightcap by an 11-6 final.
Raia got all the run support he needed from junior shortstop
Preston Koehler (Bath, Pa.), who hit a second-inning grand slam and a fourth-inning two run homerun in a 3-for-4, six-runs-batted-in (RBI) effort. Sophomore designated hitter
Brendan Looby (Sewell, N.J.) recorded two doubles in a 5-for-5 performance that produced two runs and two RBI while Raia failed to allow an earned run over his 7.2 innings of work; 7H, 2R, 0ER, 2BB, 9K.
The nightcap provided a little more drama with Chestnut Hill College (5-7, 2-0) mounting a 3-0 lead before taking the wind out of the Concordia College (3-8, 0-2) sails with a seven-run seventh inning. Sophomore pitcher
Zachary Crim (Horsham, Pa.) held the Clippers at bay; 5IP, 6H, 1R, 0BB, 3K, while The Griffins grabbed the advantage with a first-inning, two-out, RBI single from junior third baseman
Taylor Steen (New Egypt, N.J.), 1-0, and a one-out, two-run single from sophomore first baseman
Patrick Campion (Norristown, Pa.), 3-0. The Clippers got on the scoreboard in the top of the fifth inning, 3-1, and took the lead after Crim's departure in the sixth-inning, 4-3.
