Philadelphia, Pa. – (4/9/2014) – Enjoying the warmer, drier weather, the Chestnut Hill College women's tennis team played their second match since returning from Florida at Philadelphia University this afternoon. The Griffins left Abraham Salaman Tennis Courts with an 8-1 victory over the Lady Rams.
Chestnut Hill College (15-6) took the upper hand with a sweep of doubles play. Junior
Charlotte Dawson (Odessa, Texas) and freshman
Marie Deleval (Grimaud, France) overcame Philadelphia University's (13-7) top pair in an 8-6 final. Senior
Kelly Dennis (Cincinnati, Ohio) and sophomore
Iman Williams-Mulesa (Pickering, Ontario) won number two doubles 8-2 while sophomore
Hayley Craskey (Aston, Pa.) and junior
Morgan Oechsle (Coopersburg, Pa.) won the third team flight 8-1.
The Lady Rams scored their only point in singles play, where freshman Emily Chung (Manhattan Beach, Calif.) defeated Deleval 6-4, 4-6, 1-0 (10-7). The Griffins took the remainder of the individual matches with Dawson winning number one singles 6-4, 6-0, Williams-Mulesa taking number two singles 6-2, 7-5, Dennis claiming number four singles 6-1, 6-4, Oechsle securing number five singles 6-2, 6-0, and sophomore
Axe Owens (Trenton, N.J.) owning number six singles 8-0.
The women's tennis team plays next on Friday, April 11, at the Bloomburg University Duals with a 5:00 p.m. match against Bluefield State College.
