Bulldog Pitching Bests Griffin Bats in Twin Bill

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 Norristown, Pa. – (4/17/2014) – Briarcliffe College pitching baffled Chestnut Hill College all evening long as the visitors scored early to take game one, 5-2, and scored late to take game two, 5-0. Senior second baseman Mark Woltemate (Philadelphia, Pa.) and sophomore left fielder Brendan Looby (Sewell, N.J) had a hit in each contest, while senior centerfielder Desmond Lites (Philadelphia, Pa.) recorded the Griffins only run-batted-in (RBI) with a one-out single in the opener.

In game two, Briarcliffe College (17-14) got to the Chestnut Hill College (13-14) bullpen in the fourth, 1-0, and fifth innings, 5-0, while Kevin White kept the Griffins off balance. A lead-off single in the third inning from freshman designated hitter James Langlois (Mays Landing, N.J.) and a blown fielder's choice left the Griffins with their first scoring opportunity. Unfortunately, White thwarted the threat with a fly to right field and a ground-out to short before scattering four base runners over the Griffins remaining at-bats.

The Bulldogs scored five runs in their first at-bat of the twin bill with five hits and two Griffins miscues putting the home team behind early, 5-0. Luckily, errors continued to be an early theme with Griffins getting one run back in the first inning, 5-1, and another in the second inning, 5-2, on some fielding mistakes and a RBI-single from Lites. After the first inning, freshman pitchers Eric Tidwell (Roslyn, Pa.) and junior pitcher Nicholas DiPietropolo (Pilesgrove, N.J.) settled the Bulldog bats for six frames, but in opposition junior pitcher Rudy Nunez (Copiaque, N.Y.) commanded the rubber with six strikeouts over six innings (4-4).

The baseball team resumes their Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) schedule at Nyack College on Saturday, April 19, when they visit the Warriors for a 12:00 p.m. contest at Provident Bank Park in Pomona, New York.
