Box Score 2 Norristown, Pa. – (4/23/2014) – Earning two key wins in the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) playoff race, Chestnut Hill College first outslugged Philadelphia University 13-6 in tonight's opener before sparring no drama in a 2-1 game-two triumph. Senior designated hitter

Runs were not hard to find in the evening's opening affair where Chestnut Hill College (17-15, 12-6) outscored Philadelphia University (13-21, 7-9) 10-3 in the first three innings thanks to a couple Ram errors, a couple of Mullin doubles, and some key singles from junior third baseman
Taylor Steen (New Egypt, N.J.) and senior second baseman
Mark Woltemate (Philadelphia, Pa.). A lead-off triple from junior shortstop
Preston Koehler (Bath, Pa.) and a dropped tag at the plate added another Griffin run in the fifth inning, 11-3; before two seventh-inning runs gave the home team plenty of insurance for three late Ram runs, 13-6. Junior pitcher
Dane Gahr (Brick, N.J.) earned the win (3-3), allowing three runs on six hits while striking out one over seven innings.
Following a Senior Night ceremony, pitching took over as Bernhardt and sophomore pitcher Fernando Garza (Loredo, Texas) dueled for five scoreless innings before a sixth-inning lead-off walk to sophomore designated hitter
Nobel Unger III (Hatboro, Pa.) and a double from sophomore left fielder
Brendan Looby (Sewell, N.J.) broke the stalemate, 1-0. After a scoreless seventh inning, the Rams tied the contest in the top of the eighth, 1-1, only for the Griffins to regain the lead with two-out singles from Looby, sophomore catcher
Robert Slagle III (Lafayette Hill, Pa.), and McLaughlin putting them ahead 2-1. Bernhardt enjoyed a Senior-Night win (2-4), allowing one run on six hits and four walks while striking out five over eight innings. Manzella collected his fourth save with two strikeouts in the ninth inning.
The baseball team concludes their CACC schedule on Saturday, April 26, when they visit Post University for a 1:00 p.m. doubleheader.
