Men’s Tennis Splits Squad For Wins over Cougars and Deacons

Philadelphia, Pa. – (4/7/2014) – Chestnut Hill College killed two birds with one stone today as the men's tennis team split their squad for a pair of Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) matches at Caldwell College and Bloomfield College. Starting a half-hour earlier in Caldwell, New Jersey, a Griffin lineup led by freshman Mariano Porter (Cuernacava, Mexico) first disposed of the Cougars 8-1, before a second group of Griffins headlined by senior Anthony Moore (Williamstown, N.J.) earned a 9-0 victory over the Deacons.
 
Against Caldwell College (3-5, 2-4), Porter first teamed with fellow freshman Pedro Oranges (Sao Paulo, Brazil) for an 8-5 win at number one doubles, before leading of the Chestnut Hill College (13-4, 4-1) singles lineup with a 6-0, 6-1 win at number one singles. The Griffins completed their sweep of double play with wins of 8-3 and 8-1 at number two and number three doubles, respectively. The Cougars only point of the match came at number three singles, 6-4,6-1, as senior Yoann Pham (Boulogne-Billancourt, France) won number two singles 6-1, 6-2, junior Michael Humes (Mount Laurel, N.J.) took number four singles 8-3, Oranges secured the fifth singles flight 8-1, and senior Manuel Ceniceros (Mexico City, Mexico) triumphed at number six singles 6-0, 6-0.
 
Moore and sophomore Kevin Taylor (Burlington, N.J.) led off the Griffins doubles lineup at Bloomfield College (0-7, 0-5) with an 8-1 victory. Junior Sammy Atri (Mexico City, Mexico) and senior Jeramy Solema (Jamaica, N.Y.) won by the same final at number two doubles, 8-1, while freshman Sean Jaeger (Burlington, N.J.) and junior Devin Hampton (Midland, Texas) took the third team flight by an 8-2 margin. Singles went just as smoothly with the Deacons only getting on the scoreboard in three individual flights.
 
The men's tennis team plays next at the Bloomburg University Duals where they will challenge Bluefield State College, Shepherd University, and Kutztown University on April 11 and 12.
