Women’s Volleyball Splits a Pair In Final Day at Marauder Clash

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 Millersville, Pa. - (9/6/2014) – Chestnut Hill College broke even in their second day of play at the Marauder Clash, as they won a morning match against Virginia Union University, 3-0 (25-13, 25-21, 25-8), before dropping an afternoon contest against host, Millersville University, 1-3 (21-25, 25-17, 15-25, 13-25). Sophomore setter Emily Drew (Ringoes, N.J.) , sophomore libero Regina Trabosh (Norristown, Pa.), sophomore outside hitter Madison McBride (Long Beach, Calif.), and junior middle hitter Rachel Biro (Nazareth, Pa.) comprised the Griffins leading foursome in both affairs.
 
Chestnut Hill College (1-3) made short work of Virginia Union University (0-3) who only challenged the Griffins in the second of three sets, 25-13, 25-21, 25-8. Drew supplied 28 assists for 19 combined kills from McBride (11) and Biro (8). McBride also helped out Trabosh on defense (14 digs) with seven digs while junior defensive specialist Deanna Bianchini (Blue Bell, Pa.) headlined an impressive team performance on the serve. The Griffins intimidated the Panthers with seven aces to go along with their five team blocks; freshman middle hitter Melissa Shunk (Laguna Niguel, Calif.) was responsible for two block assists and a solo denial.
 
In the second match of the day, the Griffins evened the score with Millersville University (4-0) after McBride led a late second-set rally, 1-1 (21-25, 25-17). Unfortunately, the Marauders proved to be the superior squad with wins of 25-15 and 25-13 putting the Griffins away in four sets, 1-3. McBride totaled seven kills, an ace, and 11 digs while Biro offered eight kills and five blocks from the middle. Drew was effective on both sides of the net, contributing 28 assists and 11 digs in a versatile performance. Meanwhile Trabosh hustled to 20 digs and scored an ace.
 
The women's volleyball team returns to campus to host West Chester University in their home opener on Tuesday, September 9. Opening serve in Sorgenti Arena is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
