Box Score Bloomfield, N.J. - (10/10/2015) – Coming into the final stretch of their Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) season, Chestnut Hill College stayed in the playoff race with this afternoon's 2-2 double overtime tie at Bloomfield College. Nearly 20 minutes after giving up the contest's initial tally, freshman midfielder
Marikate O'Toole (Philadelphia, Pa.) completed a corner serve from senior midfielder
Danielle Spinuzza (Williamstown, N.J.), erasing the deficit for halftime and encouraging the Griffins for a late second-half score. Unfortunately, the Bears answered before the end of regulation, forcing overtime and precipitating the draw.
Each side rattled off two overtime shots with Bloomfield College (3-7-1, 1-6-1) firing twice in the first extra frame and Chestnut Hill College (4-6-1, 2-5-1) splitting theirs between the two bonus periods. Overall, the Griffins controlled the tempo with a 17-10 shooting advantage and a 6-0 edge in corner kick opportunities. O'Toole made the third one count, as she tied the contest at 1-1, just before the 40-minute mark (39:59), on a corner kick serve from Spinuzza, 1-1.
Following intermission, the Griffins launched an onslaught of strikes on the Bear goal, but a series of shots from O'Toole, senior midfielder
Victoria Fedora (East McKeesport, Pa.), and Spinuzza all met the hands of junior goalkeeper Diana Vincentini (Lacey Township, N.J.). Eventually the Griffin pressure broke the Bear defenses once more as sophomore forward
Morgan Ruth (Blackwood, N.J.) recorded her third goal of the season after teaming with senior defender
Courtney Weidner (Philadelphia, Pa.) to force a turnover in the Griffins offensive end and register the go-ahead tally at 71:47, 2-1. But the Bears were not beaten, evening affair just nine minutes later (80:41) on a long 30-yard boot from junior midfielder Sammy Bucknell (Acushnet, Mass.), 2-2.
The Bears first goal of the afternoon was set up at 21:12 on a tick-tack-toe progression from junior midfielder Allison Galiano (Washington Township, N.J.) to freshman midfielder Lisa Parello (Staten Island, N.Y.), to the oncoming foot of sophomore midfielder Nicole McWilliams (Staten Island, N.Y.). Parello and McWilliams led the Bears with three shots apiece while Bucknell scored on her second shot of the game. Vincentini made ten saves in the tie (3-6-1).
O'Toole and Spinuzza both took four shots apiece, pioneering the Griffins offensive aggression while senior goalkeeper
Kayla Reno (Cantonsville, Md.) made five saves in the tie (3-6-1). It was the second game in a row that the Griffins totaled 17 shots, outshooting their second straight CACC opponent for a valuable point in the league standings.
The women's soccer team continues their CACC schedule next Saturday, October 17, when they welcome Caldwell University to Victory Field #1 for a 1:00 p.m. contest.
