3/24/2015 9:09:00 PM

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 Millersville, Pa. - (3/24/2015) – Due to poor field conditions Chestnut Hill College and #19 Millersville University swapped roles in this afternoon's doubleheader, allowing the Marauders to earn a pair of wins on their home turf. In the opener the Marauders six-run third inning overshadowed a sixth-inning solo home run for senior right fielder Michael McLaughlin (Philadelphia, Pa.), 7-2, while in game two the Griffins chased the home team to a busy 10-8 final.

The first two innings went quietly in the opener. But in the third inning, a lead-off walk, a single to right field, a triple, and four more base hits gave Millersville University (18-6) a 6-0 lead on Chestnut Hill College (8-5). McLaughlin's second home run of the season broke the shutout, 6-1, but a lead-off triple and a single in the Marauder half of the sixth inning returned the Marauder advantage to six runs, 7-1, before junior left fielder Brendan Looby (Sewell, N.J.) brought home one more Griffin run with a bases-loaded grounder to the Millersville University pitcher. The Griffins spread their five hits among five hitter with Looby and McLaughlin knocking in runs. Freshman pitchers Patrick Kelley (Pipersville, Pa.) and Matthew Lyle (Baldwin, N.Y.) combined for four innings of quality relief (4IP, 5H, 1R, 1BB, 2K).

Junior catcher Robert Slagle III (Lafayette Hill, Pa.) knocked in one of the Griffin runs with a first-inning single and another with a one-out, sixth-inning grounder to second base.  Only three other Griffins recorded a hit in the second game against the Marauders. Freshman center fielder Joseph Monaghan (Doylestown, Pa.), senior catcher Allen Umbenhauer (Whitehall, Pa.), and freshman second baseman Demetrius Isaac (Philadelphia, Pa.) were the successful parties, but eight walks and four errors helped as the Griffins scored two runs in the first inning, three runs in the fourth, and one run in the fifth inning. Unfortunately, the Marauder offense was more potent, scoring ten runs on ten hits with a least one coming in each frame. Four of them had at least two hits, sophomore right fielder Chas McCormick (West Chester, Pa.) was one as he knocked in three Marauders with a pair of singles and a second-inning, ground-out to short. Sophomore left fielder Jeremy Musser (Shippensburg, Pa.) led off the Marauder half of the third inning with a home run to centerfield while the win went to sophomore pitcher Reid Anderson (New Egypt, N.J.) (1-0), who allowed three unearned runs two hits and a walk over three innings of relief.

The baseball team continues their brief non-conference stretch tomorrow, March 25, when they host The Lincoln University in a 3:00 p.m. doubleheader at Latshaw-McCarthy Field.
