Philadelphia, Pa. - (4/1/2015) – The Chestnut Hill College men's tennis team brought a real piece of history to their April Fool's Day clash with Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) rival Caldwell University, giving Head Coach
Albert Stroble his 100
th career victory with a 9-0 sweep.
Chestnut Hill College (8-6, 3-0) quickly took care of the doubles play, with an 8-1 win from junior
Henry Boyle (London, England) and senior
Devin Hampton (Midland, Texas) setting the tone for the ensuing dominance. Seniors
Michael Humes (Mount Laurel, N.J.) and
Steven Say (Cannes, France) were 8-3 winners at number two, while freshmen
Lucas Bocaletto (Itatiba, Brazil) and
Pedro Festugato Regalin (Caxias do Sul, Brazil) outlasted the top Caldwell University (0-4, 0-3) pairing for an 8-6 decision.
Senior
Sammy Atri (Mexico City, Mexico) brought Stroble to the precipice of the century mark with a 6-1, 6-1 rout of the sixth singles flight, and Humes made it official with an easy victory in the third flight (6-1, 6-2). Boyle, Bocaletto, and junior
Kevin Taylor (Burlington, N.J.) all coasted to straight-set triumphs at fourth (6-1, 6-2), first (6-0, 6-3), and fifth (6-2, 6-4) singles, respectively, before Say finished off the sweep with a hard-earned 6-3, 2-6, 10-7 conquest on the number two court.
Chestnut Hill College hits the road to take on Southern New Hampshire University and the University of Hartford on Friday, April 3, and Saturday, April 4. After that, Coach Stroble will be honored for his milestone with a brief presentation before the Griffins' CACC showdown with #6 Concordia College (NY) on Tuesday, April 7. First serve is scheduled 3:00 p.m., with the ceremony expected to begin about 15 minutes prior.
