Box Score Philadelphia, Pa. - (9/29/2015) – A 3-1 (25-23, 25-19, 17-25, 25-23) non-conference defeat at the hands of Pace University was only a hiccup on a historic night for senior outside hitter Rachel Biro (Nazareth, Pa.) of the Chestnut Hill College women's volleyball team. Biro notched 15 kills on the evening, including the 1,000th of her career, and became the program's all-time leader in that category, etching her name into Griffin lore forever with a typically impressive performance.

Biro's monumental kill came in the first set, a booming effort off a feed from freshman setter Kennedy Sutton (Chesapeake, Va.) that cut the early Pace University (7-9) advantage to 11-8. She added another in the frame, but Chestnut Hill College (4-12) still trailed behind in a 25-23 verdict.

The Griffins' super senior made more history shortly thereafter, pumping in her record-setting 1,002nd kill to give the home side a 6-4 lead and move her past Alexandra DePalma '14 and into first place atop the school's pages. The Setters, however, continued to push the tempo and captured the next six points on the way to a 25-19 decision and a 2-0 advantage.

Chestnut Hill College rose up in the third set, racing out to a 14-5 discrepancy and withstanding a Pace University push for a 25-17 tally that kept its hopes alive. With the crowd, garbed in leis for the team's Beach Night promotion, providing a bolt of energy, the Griffins went toe to toe with the Setters in an epic fourth set that featured 13 ties and eight lead changes. The hosts trailed, 16-13, before a spirited rally delivered a 22-19 advantage and forced the rattled visitors into a timeout. The stoppage seemed to rejuvenate the Setters, who reeled off three straight points before a service error gifted the Griffins a 23-22 edge. Unfortunately, a Pace University kill and back-to-back bad sets by Chestnut Hill College conspired to deal the Scarlet and Gold a second setback to the Setters this season.

Sophomore outside hitter Sydney Lecker (Littleton, Colo.) and freshman outside hitter Claudia Fontanet (Bayamon, Puerto Rico) each put forth double-doubles for Pace University; both had 13 kills, with Fontanet besting Lecker's dig total by one to finish with 18. Freshman setter Mira Wallace (Oshkosh, Wisc.) repeated the feat with 42 assists and 10 digs, while junior outside hitter Samantha Marquez (Palmetto Bay, Fla.) collected eight kills and 22 digs.

Biro led all players with 15 kills for Chestnut Hill College, which got a near double-double from junior outside hitter Madison McBride (Long Beach, Calif.); she finished with nine kills and a career-high 24 digs. Sutton provided 37 assists and 15 digs for her fourth double-double of the season, and junior middle hitter Emily Koehler (Bath, Pa.) contributed 10.5 points with eight kills, a solo block, and three block assists. Junior libero Regina Trabosh (Norristown, Pa.) racked up 35 digs, matching a career benchmark.

Chestnut Hill College takes the short road trip to face University of the Sciences in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) contest on Thursday, October 1, at 7:15 p.m.
