Rachel Biro (Nazareth, Pa.) led the Griffins with ten points apiece, while the Pioneers won the match 3-1 (25-12, 23-25, 25-15, 25-14) on the combined effort of sophomore outside hitter Danielle Valenza (Hauppauge, N.Y.), freshman outside hitter Rachel Londot (Utica, N.Y.), and senior setter Monica Amador (Cedar Park, Texas).
The trio scored 38.5 of 72 LIU Post (3-0) points as the Pioneers claimed their third win of the Bentley University Invitational. In the opening set they pulled away early, 15-3, leaving Chestnut Hill College (0-3) behind in a 25-12 final. The Griffins responded in the second set, with a highly contested 25-23 win on a combined team effort highlighted by four kills from Biro, three kills from sophomore middle hitter
Samantha Gelfan (Chandler, Ariz.), and a kill and two blocks by McBride.
The Pioneers regained control of the match in the third set with Amador supplying three kills, seven assists, an ace, two digs, and two blocks in a 25-15 win. The match was secured with succeeding a 25-14 Pioneers win that saw Amador finish with ten kills, 17 assists, two aces, six digs, and three blocks. Valenza recorded 17 kills, 15 digs, and a block while Londot totaled ten kills, five aces, 17 digs, and three blocks.
McBride scored six kills, two aces, while hustling to 14 digs and two blocks. Biro earned all ten of her points on kills while freshman setter
Kennedy Sutton (Chesapeake, Va.) supplied two kills, 25 assists, and an ace. Junior libero
Regina Trabosh (Norristown, Pa.) added two assists and 18 digs in the loss.
Bentley University remains as the Griffins' last opponent at the invitational; Chestnut Hill College is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. match against the hosting institution.
