Kohler Continues to Win, But Griffins Fall to FIT

3/2/2016 5:28:00 PM

Box Score | Melbourne, Fla. - (3/2/2016) – Chestnut Hill College's only solace of the afternoon came in the second individual flight, where freshman Pierre Kohler (Les Sables d'Olonne, France) continued to shine with a 7-5, 6-2 victory over Florida Institute of Technology (FIT) sophomore Ricardo Corona Monterrey, Nuevo Leon, Mexico). Regrettably, the Panthers won all points before and after Kohler's victory to earn an 8-1 win over the Griffins.

FIT (5-3) welcomed Chestnut Hill College (3-3) to campus with a sweep of doubles play. The Panther victories came in reverse order as a third doubles loss, 8-4, for freshman Adam Gavin (Gothenburg, Sweden) and junior Pedro Oranges de Figueredo (Sao Paulo, Brazil) was followed by home wins at number two doubles, 8-6, and number one doubles, 8-6.

The Panthers extended their lead to individual play, where an injury retirement (6-2, 2-0, ret.) at number one singles gave them a 4-0 advantage before Kohler kept his perfect record (6-0) with a triumph at number two singles, 4-1. Unfortunately, the Griffins went pointless in the remaining flights as the Panthers went away winning 6-4, 6-3, at number three singles, 4-6, 6-2, 6-4, at number four singles, 6-2, 3-6, 10-5, at number five singles, and 6-4, 6-4, at number six singles, 8-1.

The Chestnut Hill College men's tennis team plays their next match tomorrow, Thursday, March 3, at Palm Beach Atlantic University. Opening serve is scheduled for 3:00 p.m.
