Box Score 2 Albany, N.Y. – (3/26/2016) – Pitching ruled the day at the College of St. Rose where Chestnut Hill College split this afternoon's competition with the Golden Knights, winning the opener on a combined shutout from junior
Dylan Borawski (Hatfield, Pa.) and freshman
Dino Cattai (Philadelphia, Pa.), 1-0, before sophomore
Matthew Kress (Lansdale, Pa.) fell on the short side of a 2-1 final in game two. Sophomore second baseman
Alec Craig (Hammonton, N.J.) and senior designated hitter
Robert Slagle III (Lafayette Hill, Pa.) recorded the Griffins' only two hits in the first game while senior first baseman
Patrick Campion (Norristown, Pa.) knocked in the only run needed for victory with a third-inning ground out to second base. Junior shortstop
Jonathan Baturgil (Freehold, N.J.) recorded two of the Griffins' five hits in game two.
After a 1-0 final in the opener, the second game went scoreless through the first four frames. In the top of the fifth inning, Baturgil led off the at-bat with a single through the left side. He quickly stole second base and moved to third base on an infield single to the left side from senior centerfielder
Dalton Cozart (Commerce Twp., Mich.) before hustling home when the College of St. Rose (4-9) catcher overthrew second base on Cozart's steal, 1-0. Unfortunately, in the sixth inning a lead-off single, a sacrifice bunt, and a pair of singles to center field put the Golden Knights in the driver's seat, 2-1. Baturgil's one-out single in the seventh was the Chestnut Hill College's (11-12) last hope, but it would not be enough to reverse the score as he picked him off prior to game-ending fly to center field from sophomore pinch hitter
Matthew Owens (Cherry Hill, N.J.).
Campion and senior left fielder
Brendan Looby (Sewell, N.J.) were responsible for the other Griffin hits while Kress took the loss (1-3) despite holding the Golden Knights to two runs on four hits. He struck out two.
Campion's third-inning grounder plated the only run of the opener while Borawski and Cattai kept the Golden Knights guessing over nine frames. An error by the Golden Knight third baseman put Baturgil on first to start the at-bat. A Craig bunt single back to the pitcher moved him to third for the run-scoring ground out, 1-0.
Borawski collected the win (2-1), allowing five hits and three walks while striking out five in seven innings. Cattai did not allow a single base runner while striking out five in his second two-inning save (2) of the season.
The baseball team returns to Latshaw-McCarthy Field and their Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) schedule on Wednesday, March 30, when they host Philadelphia University in a 3:00 p.m. doubleheader.
