Indianapolis, Ind. – (4/27/2016) – For the second straight year, the Chestnut Hill College golf team has earned their way into the
National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division II Atlantic/East Regional Tournament. The Griffins posted eight top-three finishes and three first-place performances on a schedule that included challenging rounds at the Dominican College Invitational, the fall and spring Goldey-Beacom College Invitationals, the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Fall Preview, the Ursinus College Invitational, the fall and spring Griffin Invitational, the Barton Intercollegiate, the Dowling College Spring Memorial, and Le Moyne College's Mike Belo Invitational.
Chestnut Hill College was fortunate to compete at the regional site earlier this year, as they visited Baldwinsville, New York's Timber Creek Golf Club for Le Moyne College's Mike Belo Invitational. The Griffins tied for seventh (310-310, 620, +44) in the 15-team field and offered two golfers among the top-20 finishers. Improving from a day-one score of 77 (+5), sophomore
Sam Riemer (Canton, Mass.) advanced eight spots to tie for 14th with a two-day total of 151 (77-74, +7). The Griffins' best day-one competitor, senior captain
Matthew Balcer (Bensalem, Pa.), shot a 79 (+7) in his second round, which rendered him in a tie for 26th (75-79, +10). Between Riemer and Balcer, Chestnut Hill College placed freshman
Brian Kirkpatrick (Jacksonville, Fla.), who completed the invitational in a tie for 18th, as he finished two strokes better (75, +3) than his first round of 77 (+5). Senior
Cody Bloom (San Diego, Calif.) finished tied for 60th (81-82, 163, +19) and junior
Anthony Hoffman (Philadelphia, Pa.) tied for 67th (83-82, 165, +21). Balcer finished the season as an All-CACC performer with his ninth-place final score of 156 (81-75, +14) at the recently completed CACC Championships.
Announced on Friday, April 22, The NCAA has announced the field of 80 teams and 32 student- athletes competing as individuals for the postseason regional competition to be played between Monday, May 2 and Wednesday, May 4. The top five teams and the top two unaffiliated student-athletes will advance to the NCAA Golf Championship which is scheduled to be held at the Green Valley Ranch in Denver, Colorado, from Tuesday, May 17 through Saturday, May 21.
