Philadelphia, Pa. - (9/17/2016) – Chestnut Hill College opened their 2016-2017 dual-match schedule today, Saturday, September 19, with a non-conference match against local Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) rival, Philadelphia University. The Griffins captured an early 3-0 lead with a sweep of doubles play before taking four of six singles matches. Junior Pedro Festugato Regalin (Caxias do Sul, Brazil) scored the clincher before the Rams could get on the scoreboard as he recorded a 6-2, 6-0, fifth-flight victory.

Chestnut Hill College (1-0) scored the first point of the match rather easily, securing an 8-1 win at number three doubles thanks to the play of freshmen Antoine Gautier (Eysines, France) and Felix Andre (Berlin, Germany) (1-0). Regalin and fellow junior Lucas Bocaletto (Itatiba, Brazil) took a little longer at number two doubles, eventually putting the Griffins up 2-0 with their 9-7 win. Soon after, sophomore Pierre Kohler (Les Sables d'Olonne, France) and junior Jonathan Ducretot (Antibes, France) did their part to shut Philadelphia University (0-1) out in team play with their 8-4 win at number one doubles (3-0).

Senior Pedro Oranges de Figueredo (Sao Paulo, Brazil) put the Scarlet and Gold in position for the match-winner with his 6-0, 6-3, triumph at number six singles. It was only minutes later that Regalin completed his win and clinched the match (5-0). The Rams first point came a little too late with Ducretot losing at number two singles 6-4, 6-3, next (5-1). The two CACC opponents traded off individual wins the rest of the way to settle the affair at a 7-2 final in the Griffins' favor.

The Chestnut Hill College men's tennis team competes next as individuals on October 1, when they travel to Old Westbury, New York, to join the New York Institute of Technology (NYIT) and several other regional competitors for the Intercollegiate Tennis Association East Regional Championships.
