Chestnut Hill College (7-17, 6-6 CACC) remained collected and confident throughout this evening's battle with the University of the Sciences (5-11, 3-9). The Griffins scored the first two points out of a 14-14 stalemate and eventually forced USciences into a timeout at 23-17 on a resounding kill by outside hitter
Corrine Kalala (Highlands Ranch, Colo.). To the visitor's dismay, the break did not faze the Griffins in a 25-18 win. The second set was a different story as the Devils trailed the entire way in a 25-16 Scarlet and Gold end. The final set mirrored the second until the end, where a five-point serving stretch by junior outside hitter Sarah Miller (Chadds Ford, Pa.) delayed the Griffins to a 22-20 win. Not long after, a Callahan kill jolted Chestnut Hill College to a 23-21 advantage that silenced the Devils for the remainder of the set, 25-22.
Miller led the Devils with 10 kills, three aces, five digs, and a block. Senior middle hitter Simran Sangu (Avenel, N.J.) complimented her production with seven kills, two digs, and two blocks. They were directed by junior setter Cassandra Moy (Sicklerville, N.J.), who totaled 25 assists and seven digs. Junior libero Rhiannon Comia (Roseville, Calif.) captained the Devil defense with 18 digs.
In addition to her 11 kills, Callahan added one assist and two blocks for a team-high 12.0 points. Kalala and sophomore outside hitter
Reily Byxbee (Madison, Conn.) both recorded nine kills on a the 28-assist effort of junior setter
Kennedy Sutton (Chesapeake, Va.). Kalala added an assist, a dig, and three block assists to her strikes, while Byxbee offered an assist, nine digs, and one block assist in excess of her successful attacks. Senior libero
Peyton Reno (Wilmington, Del.) added five assists and two aces to her 17-dig match. Sutton also recorded 10 digs.
The Chestnut Hill College women's volleyball team continues their CACC schedule on Saturday, October 21, with a 6:00 p.m. match versus Felician University.
