Box Score Philadelphia, Pa. - (10/26/2017) – With hope of Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) postseason play extinguished, Chestnut Hill College put it all on the line in today's home finale opposite East Stroudsburg University (ESU). A highly competitive first half stayed scoreless through intermission, until a clear by the Griffin goalkeeper was intercepted and scored by senior midfielder Christian Bukowski (Stroudsburg, Pa.) at 56:05, 1-0. Less than eight minutes later (62:23), the Scarlet and Gold refreshed their field, but attempts to find senior midfielder
Joseph Casaletto (Sewell, N.J.) and others up top were denied in the one-goal decision.
After a chilling pregame shower, poor footing made for a spirited first half of play. ESU (11-3-1) owned a slight 7-2 shot advantage in the frame, but neither side could put a solid boot on the ball as all nine shots were high, wide, or blocked.
Chestnut Hill College (5-12) controlled the early second half momentum, gaining a pair of corner kick chances for junior defenseman
Tales Domingues (Sao Paulo, Brazil) between the 47
th (47:45) and 49
th (48:27) minutes. Unfortunately, nothing came of the service and the Warriors responded with an extended offensive series that ended with a great individual effort from Bukowski. After putting the ball on goal, Bukowski intercepted the following clear and returned fire on the out-of-position keeper. It beat sophomore
Frank Maniscalco (Philadelphia, Pa.) to the far corner and gave the visitors a 1-0 advantage at 56:05. At 62:23, Chestnut Hill College entered six pairs of fresh legs to the contest in hope of regaining the edge. The strategy worked momentarily, as several serves found Casaletto in front of the Warrior box. He took a couple shots, as did a few others, but the Scarlet and Gold's best chance to tie the contest came on a rocket from sophomore defenseman
Paris Bruhn (Horst Holstein, Germany) at 89:17. But his last-minute attempt rung off the near goal post to preserve the Warriors' win.
Bukowski scored the lone goal of the affair on a team-high four shots. Five other Warriors took at least two shots in a 19-13 shooting edge. Junior goalkeeper Steven Robak (Columbus, N.J.) totaled three saves in his first decision of the season (1-0).
Freshman forward
Miguel Marra (Ossining, N.Y.) led Chestnut Hill College with three shots. Casaletto, senior defenseman
Brendan Griffiths (Niskayuna, N.Y.), and junior forward
Jason Burns (Douglassville, Pa.) recorded two shots apiece, while Maniscalco (68:05) and freshman
Sergio Hernandez (Ossining, N.Y.) (21:55) shared the 90 minutes in goal. Each made two saves, Maniscalco took the loss (5-9).
The Chestnut Hill College men's soccer team finishes the 2017 season – their first under Head Coach
Zack Ssebatindira - at 5-12 overall and 4-8 in CACC play.
