Philadelphia, Pa. - (10/4/2017) – Competing as a team for the first time this season, the Chestnut Hill College men's tennis team visited local Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) rival the University of the Sciences (USciences) for this afternoon's non-conference match. The Griffins scored an 8-1 triumph, emerging from doubles with a 2-1 advantage that only increased with six straight singles wins.
Chestnut Hill College (1-0) opened with the first two points of the match; freshman
Jesus Darias (Bolivar, Venezuela) and sophomore
Adam Gavin (Gothenburg, Sweden) scored the initial Scarlet and Gold tally with their 8-0 win at number three doubles. Junior
Felix Andre (Berlin, Germany) and sophomore
Antoine Gautier (Eysines, France) added to the Griffin lead with their 8-2 win at number two doubles. USciences (1-2) received return on their investment in the number one double match, 8-6, but the Devils were not as fortunate as individuals. Chestnut Hill College separated themselves with six consecutive singles wins. Gautier scored first with his 6-2, 6-1, win at number two singles. Senior
Lucas Bocaletto (Itatiba, Brazil) and Andre were the next two Griffins to point, respectively doing so at number three (3-6, 6-4, 10-6) and number one (7-5, 6-3) singles. That left Gavin's 6-0, 6-0, triumph at number four singles as the clincher, which was followed by an 8-2 number six singles win from senior
Pedro Festugato Regalin (Caxias do Sul, Brazil) and a 6-2, 6-3, number five singles win from freshman
David Villarreol (Cochabamba, Bolivia).
The Chestnut Hill College men's tennis team continues their fall schedule on Friday, October 13, with another non-conference match against a CACC foe as they visit Jefferson University for a 2:30 p.m. engagement.
