Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 Norristown, Pa. - (3/24/2017) – After flip-flopping location one last time, Chestnut Hill College finally opened both Latshaw-McCarthy Field and their Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) schedule today, Friday, March 24, as they hosted the newest member of the league, Goldey-Beacom College in a mid-afternoon doubleheader. The Lightning managed to split the twinbill with the Griffins, pilling on late in the nightcap, 14-3, after the Scarlet and Gold won the opener in walk-off fashion, 7-6, on a single to right field from senior left fielder Brandon DiBona (Southampton, Pa.). Junior first baseman Matthew Owens (Cherry Hill, N.J.) was 4-for-4 with a run-batted-in (RBI) in the opener, he also singled in the first inning of game two.

The second game was close for a majority of the competition as Goldey-Beacom College (1-13, 1-3) all but cemented their first win in program history with a nine-run seventh inning. They used a lead-off walk and two one-out base hits to plate two runs in the third inning, 2-0. The runs were neutralized in the Chestnut Hill College (5-7-1, 1-1) half of the fourth inning, where sophomore designated hitter Eric Small (Downingtown, Pa.) endured a one-out beanball before stealing both second base and third base, and eventually scoring when the Lightning catcher sailed a ball targeted for freshman pinch runner Ameir Uzzell (Levittown, Pa.) into centerfield, 2-1. Uzzel score himself, just a batter latter as freshman centerfielder Justin McFadden (Galloway, N.J.) reached on an error by the Lightning pitcher, 2-2.

But Goldey-Beacom College outscored the Scarlet and Gold in the fifth inning, 4-3, before adding a, insurance run in the sixth inning, 5-3, and nine more in the seventh, 14-3.

Chestnut Hill College scored first in game one, with Owens and sophomore catcher Eric Gilham (Deptford, N.J.) knocking DiBona and senior right fielder Joseph Monaghan (Doylestown, Pa.) home. The Lightning struck back in the second inning with a two-run home run from freshman shortstop Justin Hill (Seaford, Del.), 2-2, and established a 4-2 lead with a pair of Griffin errors in the third inning. A pair of two-outs base hits gave the Lightning a three-run edge, 5-2, in the fourth inning, but the advantage was erased after the Griffin half of the fifth inning.

There, a one-out Small double down the left field line was followed by a perfectly placed bunt single from senior second baseman Jon Baturgil (Freehold, N.J.), a wild pitch, run-scoring ground-out from junior shortstop Alec Craig (Hammonton, N.J.), 5-3, a Lightning error, 5-4, an RBI-single from Monaghan, 5-5, and a RBI-single from Gilham, 6-5. The Scarlet and Gold bullpen held Goldey-Beacom College scoreless over the next three innings, leaving the drama until the final frame.

In the ninth inning, the Lightning put the pressure on, loading the bases on three consecutive walks, prior to scoring the game-tying run on a single to right field, 6-6. But, the Scarlet and Gold used their home field advantage, using a Small walk, a Baturgil sacrifice, and a DiBona single to right center to plate the gam-winning run, 7-6.

Chestnut Hill College continues their CACC schedule on Tuesday, March 28, when they visit Bloomfield College for a 10:00 p.m. doubleheader.
