Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 Norristown, Pa. - (4/12/2017) – Junior Patrick Kelley (Pipersville, Pa.) settled in after allowing three runs in the first inning of this afternoon's Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) doubleheader versus #20 Felician University. He held the Golden Falcons scoreless over the next seven frames while junior first baseman Matthew Owens (Cherry Hill, N.J.), senior right fielder Joseph Monaghan (Doylestown, Pa.), and sophomore catcher Eric Gilham (Deptford, N.J.) knocked in the necessary runs for a 5-3 victory. Chestnut Hill College led the Golden Falcons 2-1 in the second inning of game two, but a poorly timed error helped the visitors to four runs in the third inning and an eventual 7-3 win. Owens was 3-for-4 in the nightcap, Gilham and sophomore centerfielder Vincent Case (Southampton, Pa.) each batted in a run.
 
With a game in hand, Chestnut Hill College (15-10-1, 10-4) scored in their first at-bat of game two. A one-out walk to senior left fielder Brandon DiBona (Southampton, Pa.), a stolen base, a wild pitch, and an errant throw from the Felician University (21-9, 12-2) catcher produced the tally, 1-0. The Golden Falcons tied the contest in the top of the second inning with a lead-off single, a sacrifice, and a single to centerfield, 1-1. The Scarlet and Gold regained the lead with a run in the bottom of the frame with a pair of one-out walks to Jon Baturgil (Freehold, N.J.) and freshman right fielder Justin McFadden (Galloway, N.J.) and a one-run, Case double down the right field line, 2-0. Unfortunately, the Golden Falcons netted four runs on three hits and an error in the third inning, 5-2. They added two more runs in the fifth inning, 7-2, leaving a seventh-inning, lead-off double from senior right fielder Christopher Newman (Hammonton, N.J.) and a Gilham single to centerfield in vain, 7-3.
 
In the opener, Felician University got out to an early start with three runs in their first at-bat. But after that, they had a hard time getting to Kelley, who did not allow a runner past second base over the next seven innings. Meanwhile, Chestnut Hill College chipped away at the Golden Falcon lead. They scored a run in the second inning with a lead-off single from Owens, a sacrifice from sophomore designated hitter Eric Small (Downingtown, Pa.), and a two-out wild pitch, 3-1. Two more Scarlet and Gold runs crossed in the seventh inning. A lead-off beaning of DiBona, a Gilham sacrifice, and an Owens single through the left side scored the first, 3-2. The second came after a Small double down the left field line and a Monaghan sacrifice fly, 3-3.

The game-winning runs scored in the eighth inning, where a lead-off single from Baturgil was escalated by a sacrifice from junior pinch hitter Demetrius Isaac (Philadelphia, Pa.), a single to centerfield from junior shortstop Alec Craig (Hammonton, N.J.), and a two-out, two-run Gilham single to left field, 5-3. Kelley (2-3) allowed three runs on nine hits and two walks while striking out four. Freshman Dino Cattai (Philadelphia, Pa.) collected his fifth save of the season, establishing himself as the Griffins all-time leader in the category (11).
 
Chestnut Hill College returns to action after the holiday break, on Tuesday, April 18, when they visit Concordia College (NY) for a 1:30 p.m. doubleheader.
