Chestnut Hill College Completes Perfect CACC Season With 7-2 Win at USciences

Box Score | Philadelphia, Pa. - (4/18/2017) – With the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Championship Tournament scheduled to take place at the Chestnut Hill College Campus Tennis Courts this Saturday, April 22, and Sunday, April 23, the Scarlet and Gold used a 7-2 victory over the University of the Sciences (USciences) to put the finishing touches on a perfect league record (5-0). The Griffins scored the first two points of the match at number one (8-3) and number two (9-7) doubles, respectively. USciences broke up the shutout before the end of doubles play, 2-1, but it did not take long for Chestnut Hill College to clinch in singles as sophomore Victor Iove (Tournai, Belgium) scored the match-winner, 7-2, at number five singles (6-4, 6-3).
 
With the win, Chestnut Hill College will serve as the #1 seed in the CACC Championship Tournament and will therefore, host #4 Philadelphia University in a 10:00 a.m. semifinal match on Saturday, April 22. #2 Post University and #3 USciences will follow in the 1:00 p.m. semifinal match.
 
Sophomore Pierre Kohler (Les Sables d'Olonne, France) and senior Jonathan Ducretot (Antibes, France) secured the first point of the match for Chestnut Hill College (13-5, 5-0) with their 8-3 win at number one doubles, 1-0. The Griffins soon made it 2-0 with a 9-7 win at number two doubles from juniors, Pedro Festugato Regalin (Caxias do Sul, Brazil) and
Lucas Bocaletto (Itatiba, Brazil). Unfortunately, USciences (11-9, 3-2) won number three doubles, 9-8 (6), to send the match to singles play with a one point deficit, 2-1.
 
Kohler and Ducretot quickly put the Scarlet and Gold on the verge of victory, 4-1, with their respective singles wins at number one (6-3, 6-0) and number three singles (6-4, 6-2). The Devils then put a slight delay on their fate with a 7-5, 6-2 win at number two singles, 4-2, as the remaining individual flights went in the Griffins favor, 7-2. In order, Iove scored the clincher at number five singles (6-4, 6-3), Regalin regulated at number six singles (6-0, 6-0), and freshman Antoine Gautier (Eysines, France) guaranteed number four singles (2-6, 6-0, 6-3).
 
The Chestnut Hill College men's tennis team finishes their 2016-2017 regular season – their first under Head Coach Ryan Gargullo - schedule with a 13-5 overall record and a 5-0 CACC standing.
