Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 Norristown, Pa. - (4/22/2017) – Enduring the persistent rain, Chestnut Hill College managed to complete both games of today's Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) doubleheader versus Caldwell University. Junior first baseman Matthew Owens (Cherry Hill, N.J.) (4-for-5, 3 runs) and senior third baseman Austin DiBonaventure (Plymouth Meeting, Pa.) (3-for-4, 1 run, 4 RBI) provided the punch to help senior Justin Harnett (Aberdeen, N.J.) to his second win (2-2) of the season in game one, 10-5. Unfortunately, it was the Cougars who found their offense in game two, eventually getting to the Scarlet and Gold bullpen in an 8-3 nightcap. The Griffins totaled only four hits in the second game; senior left fielder Brandon DiBona (Southampton, Pa.) used his third-inning double to left field to knock in three runs.

Caldwell University (12-21, 6-12) led the second game 2-0 after their at-bat in the third inning. In the bottom of the frame, Chestnut Hill College (18-13-1) responded with three runs. Sophomore catcher Eric Gilham (Deptford, N.J.) put the wheels in motion with a one-out single through the left side. It was followed by a walk to Owens, a pitching change, an error by the Cougar shortstop, a line out to third base, and DiBona's double to right center, 3-2. Senior Dylan Borawski (Hatfield, Pa.) was in control until the seventh inning, where a pair of lead off singles forced the Griffins into their bullpen. The Cougars capitalized, scoring six runs to overcome Chestnut Hill College, 8-3. Gilham, Owens, DiBona, and senior pinch hitter Christopher Demey (Phoenixville, Pa.) were responsible for the Griffins four hits. Borawski (1-2) allowed three earned runs on six hits and a walk. He struck out two in six innings of work.

Chestnut Hill College offense was consistent in the opener, scoring one run in the second inning, 1-0, one run in the third inning, 2-1, four runs in the fifth inning, 6-1, one run in the sixth inning, 7-1, and two more runs in the eighth inning, 10-4. Caldwell University narrowed final deficit by a run, scoring on a misplayed, two-out grounder to second base, 10-5. The Griffins' run in the second inning was the product of a two-out DiBona single up the middle, a single through the left side from sophomore designated hitter Zach Szumigala (Fairless Hills, Pa.), a walk to sophomore left fielder Eric Small (Downingtown, Pa.), and an error at third base. Senior right fielder Joseph Monaghan (Doylestown, Pa.) singled in the run in the third inning, singles from DiBonaventure and DiBona, and an error delivered the four runs in the fifth inning.

In the sixth inning it was a DiBonaventure sacrifice fly, in the seventh inning a sacrifice fly from sophomore center fielder Vincent Case (Southampton, Pa.), and in the eighth inning DiBonaventure struck once more with a two-run double to left. Harnett (2-2) held the Cougars to an unearned run on five hits. He struck out four in seven innings on the hill.

Chestnut Hill College plays their next CACC contests on Monday, April 24, when they visit Dominican College for a 3:00 p.m. doubleheader.
