4/9/2017 1:38:00 AM

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 Norristown, Pa. - (4/8/2017) – The opener of today's Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) versus Nyack College was tied, 4-4, after five innings, but two Chestnut Hill College runs in the sixth inning and an avalanche of seven eighth-inning runs secured the win for the Scarlet and Gold, 13-5. In the second game the Griffins made their move for the sweep with a three-run fifth inning. It gave them a 4-1 lead and an eventual 5-2 triumph. Plenty of Griffins recorded multiple hits in the first contest, but junior shortstop Alec Craig (Hammonton, N.J.) was the straw that stirs the drink with five hits (5-for-8), three runs, and two runs-batted-in (RBI) in the doubleheader. Senior Dylan Borawski (Hatfield, Pa.) (1-1) and junior Andrew Sibson (Galloway, N.J.) (4-0) recorded wins; Borawski limited the Warriors to one run on six hits and a walk over six inning of work in game two.

Nyack College (11-10, 4-4) owned a 4-0 lead after their at-bat in the top of the fourth inning. But Chestnut Hill College (14-9-1, 9-3) clawed back within one run of the Warriors, 4-3, in the bottom of the fourth inning with Craig single to right field, a sacrifice from senior left fielder Brandon DiBona (Southampton, Pa.), a single to centerfield from sophomore catcher Eric Gilham (Deptford, N.J.), a walk to junior first baseman Matthew Owens (Cherry Hill, N.J.) to loading the bases. Singles from sophomore designated hitter Eric Small (Downingtown, Pa.) and senior third baseman Austin DiBonaventure (Plymouth Meeting, Pa.) emptied them. In the fifth inning the Griffins knotted the contest at 4-4 with a two-out double from DiBona and a succeeding Owens single. The Scarlet and Gold kept hitting from there, separating with an error and a Craig double in the sixth inning, 6-4, before distancing themselves with a seven-run eighth inning, 13-5.

Craig was 3-for-5 with a run, while Owens (2-for-3), Small (2-for-5), and Monaghan (2-for-5) each record two hits. Sibson allowed three earned runs on five hits and a walk while striking out four over seven innings.

Chestnut Hill College picked up in the second game where left out the first as a lead-off triple from Craig, a DiBona sacrifice fly scored a Scarlet and Gold run in the first inning, 1-0. Nyack College equaled it in the top of the second inning, 1-1, but the Griffins put together another big frame in the fifth inning. There, a lead-off walk to DiBonaventure, a wild pitch, a passed ball, and a Monaghan walk were the precursor to a wild pitch (2-1), a Warrior error (3-1), and a run-scoring Craig single (4-1). Each side plated one more run, leaving the Griffins ahead 5-2 at game's end. DiBonaventure knocked in Chestnut Hill College's sixth-inning run with a one-out single up the middle.

Chestnut Hill College continues their CACC schedule on Wednesday, April 12, when they host Felician University in a 3:00 p.m. doubleheader.
