Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 Waterbury, Conn. - (5/13/2017) – After giving away a three-run lead in the ninth inning, a pair of 11th-inning, lead-off singles and a wild pitch gave #4 Chestnut Hill College a 4-3 victory in game one and the opportunity to challenge #6 Dominican College for the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Baseball Championship. Unfortunately, the Chargers' bats made plenty of noise in the second game, putting three runs on the scoreboard in the second inning, four in the fifth inning, and five in the sixth inning to run away with a 12-1 final and the league crown.

Senior centerfielder Joseph Monaghan (Doylestown, Pa.) was 3-for-5 in game one, but runs were batted in by senior left fielder Brandon DiBona (Southampton, Pa.), sophomore catcher Eric Gilham (Deptford, N.J.), and freshman second baseman Ameir Uzzell (Levittown, Pa.). In his first collegiate start, sophomore Dino Cattai (Philadelphia, Pa.) was strong, holding Dominican College (21-27) to two earned runs on nine hits and a walk. He struck out three. Senior Austin DiBonaventure (Plymouth Meeting, Pa.) collected the win (1-1) in with two innings of scoreless relief. He walked one and struck out one in the extra frames.

Chestnut Hill College (24-21-1) gradually established a 3-0 advantage win solo runs in the first, fourth, and seventh innings. A lead-off triple to right field from junior shortstop Alec Craig (Hammonton, N.J.) was a good start for the Griffins, who immediately capitalized on the extra base hit with a single to centerfield from DiBona, 1-0. In the fourth inning, Monaghan led off the Scarlet and Gold's at-bat to right field. A sacrifice from DiBonaventure and a two-out double from Uzzell brought the next run across, 2-0. The third tally was the result of a pair of Charger errors and a Gilham single to left field, 3-0. Regrettably, Dominican College made the Griffins work a little harder for the win, tying the affair at 3-3 in ninth inning. In the 11th inning, the Scarlet and Gold ended the delay. It began with a single to centerfield from senior third baseman Jon Baturgil (Freehold, N.J.) and quickly escalated with a Monaghan single to right field and a wild pitch that allowed the winning run to score, 4-3.

The Chargers took control on game two early with a three-run second inning, 3-0. They added four runs in the top of the fifth inning, 7-0, before the Griffins were able to answer back on a two-out single to centerfield from DiBona, 7-1. Unfortunately, Dominican College made the task more difficult with five runs in the top of the sixth inning, 12-1; for that Chestnut Hill College had no answer as the 11-run spread endured until the final out.

10399Baturgil was 2-for-2 while five others recorded a hit apiece for Chestnut Hill College. Freshman Charles Coyle Jr. (Philadelphia, Pa.) and junior Pat Geraghty (Morristown, N.J.) both offered scoreless relief. Coyle only allowed a walk in the third inning while Geraghty held the Chargers scoreless for the final three frames. He allowed one hit and one walk while striking out one.

Prior to today's first contest, Chestnut Hill College Associate Director of Athletics Jesse Balcer conferred undergraduate degrees to outfielder Christopher Newman (Hammonton, N.J.), Monaghan, DiBona, DiBonaventure, and catcher Christopher Demey (Phoenixville, Pa.). CACC All-Tournament honors were awarded to Casey O'Donnell (Philadelphia University), Julian Kurych (Wilmington University), Dan Hyatt (Wilmington University), Kraigen Rasalla (CACC Tournament MVP, Dominican College), Brett Schneider (Dominican College), Max Franzone (Dominican College), Arbely Soto (Dominican College), Anthony Bartolomei (Dominican College), and from Chestnut Hill College; Patrick Kelley (Pipersville, Pa.), Cattai, and Gilham.

Chestnut Hill College finished the 2017 season at 24-21-1 overall and 13-9 in CACC play. It was the Scarlet and Gold's third straight season of 20 wins or more and their third CACC Championship appearance in the last five seasons.
