NYIT (1-2) issued the first assaults of the rain-soaked evening with a pair of corner kicks and a pair of shots on either side of the seven-minute mark. Their first shot – a header – hit the post and the second was saved by the Chestnut Hill College (1-2) defense. The effort united the Griffins, who dictated play over the next 17 minutes. Jason Doherty (Letterkenny Donegal, Ireland), and Bruhn were respectively saved, pushed wide, and blocked, before giving way to an NYIT response. The Bears ruined the momentum with a pair of offside calls (27:42, 29:11) and roughly ten minutes later Doherty struck a Bruhn feed with his left foot to break the scoreless stalemate, 1-0. Miguel Marra (Ossining, N.Y.) each had a chance to advance the Griffin lead prior to intermission, but the Scarlet and Gold enjoyed the one-goal halftime edge nonetheless. The Chestnut Hill College advantage was tested late in the second half, but Maniscalco and the Scarlet and Gold backfield held firm to preserve the victory.
Simon-Peter Omooba (London, England) recorded three of the Bears' nine shots. Senior goalkeeper Jonathan Rico (Elmhurst, N.Y.) made two saves in the loss (1-2).
Conversely, Bruhn led Chestnut Hill College with three shots. Doherty and Marra both offered two shots while three others took one apiece.
The Chestnut Hill College men's soccer team returns home to host Caldwell University for their Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) opener, which is scheduled for a 3:00 p.m. kickoff on the Campus Field.
