Hillburn, N.Y. - (4/13/2019) – Today's
Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) contest was decided in the final 15 minutes as Chestnut Hill College built upon an 11-10 lead with a 4-2 fourth-quarter spread that pushed them out of Dominican College's reach in an eventual 15-12 final. Sophomore midfielder
Ben Revak (Aston, Pa.) netted a goal at the end of the third quarter (0:35) to give the Griffins the lead for good. Junior attack
Scott Wilden (Wexford, Pa.) was the Griffins' top performer with four goals, an assist, and a pair of ground balls.
Wilden bookended (11:12, 6:46) a goal from sophomore attack
Carson Rees (Port Coquitlam, British Columbia) (2-0, 9:16) to give Chestnut Hill College (7-4, 2-0) an early 3-0 advantage. But Dominican College (2-8, 1-1) evened the playing field over the next six minutes, scoring three consecutive goals of their own to tie the contest at 3-3 with 3:18 remaining in the first quarter. Thanks to two last-minute connections between sophomore attack
J.R. Howell (East Meadow, N.Y.) and Wilden (0:54, 0:39), the Griffins emerged from the opening frame with a 5-3 edge. The second quarter saw Chestnut Hill College separate for a 9-3 lead only for the Chargers to recover for a 9-6 halftime spread.
After intermission, Dominican College continued their charge, evening the spread at 10-10 with a four-goal rush over the final seven minutes (6:54) of the third quarter. Fortunately, the Griffins' determined will overcame with a 4-2 fourth quarter performance, 15-12.
Dominican College offered a balanced effort with six Chargers recording at least two points; freshman Luke Martini (Abington, Mass.) and junior midfielder Marcos Pierce (Middleburg, Va.) were the best among them, respectively providing three goals and an assist, and two goals and two assists. In goal, freshman Patrick Gifford (Galloway, N.J.) (1-2) kept the Chargers in the mix with 19 saves, four ground balls, and a caused turnover.
Behind Wilden, Howell (1 goal, 3 assists), Rees (3, 1), and senior midfielder
John Bennett (Plymouth Meeting, Pa.) (3, 1) recorded four points apiece. Revak finished with three goals and a pair of ground balls. In goal, freshman
Austin Jones (Courtice, Ontario) was solid once again, earning the win (7-3) with 15 saves and three ground balls.
