Millersville, Pa. - (4/7/2019) – Shorthanded, Chestnut Hill College traveled to Millersville University for this afternoon's match. There, Griffin wins at number one doubles (6-3), number two singles (6-0, 6-2), and number one singles (6-1, 6-4) were not enough to overcome Marauders, whose 6-0, 6-0, win at number four singles secured the win in a 4-3 final. The Scarlet and Gold won number two (6-0, 6-2) and number one (6-3) doubles matches to earn an early 1-0 advantage, but their short roster eventually caught up with them in the end.
Millersville University (5-13) enjoyed a head start as
Chestnut Hill College (2-11) offered no competition at number three doubles. Fortunately, junior
Nicole Yang (Blue Bell, Pa.) and junior
Barbara Broville (Toulouse, France) combined for a 6-1 win in the second flight, and junior
Mia Covic (Novi Sad, Serbia) and senior
Daniela Siqueira (Sao Paulo, Brazil) triumphed 6- 3 in the top team flight to rally for the doubles point, 1-0.
The default win in the sixth flight evened the match at the start of individual play, 1-1, and the Marauders briefly held a 2-1 lead with their 6-0, 6-0, win at number three singles. Broville knotted the match once again at 2-2 with her 6-0, 6-2, win at number two singles, but respective 6-1, 6-0, and 6-0, 6-0, decisions in the fifth and fourth flights pushed the match in Millersville University's favor. Covic added the Griffins' final point, 4-3, with her 6-1, 6-4, win at number one singles.
Chestnut Hill College concludes their 2018-2019 schedule on Tuesday, April 16, when they visit East Stroudsburg University for a 3:30 p.m. match.
