Box Score Philadelphia, Pa. - (9/21/2019) – Chestnut Hill College welcomed Caldwell University to campus today for their Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) season opener. The Griffins used default points at number three doubles and number six singles to get a head start on the Cougars. After winning the doubles point with a 6-1 win from seniors Barbara Broville (Toulouse, France) and Mia Covic (Novi Sad, Serbia) in the first flight, the Scarlet and Gold scored the clinching point of a 6-1 triumph with Broville's 6-2, 6-1 win at number two singles.
 
Chestnut Hill College (1-1, 1-0) started with a 1-0 lead as Caldwell University (0-1, 0-1) forfeited number three doubles. It was only a matter of time before the Griffins secured the doubles point with Broville and Covic's 6-1 win at number one doubles. Sophomore Gianna Vassalluzzo (Newtown, Pa.) and freshman Carlota Garcia Arguelles (Madrid, Spain) made it a clean sweep with their 6-2 win at number two doubles.
 
The default at number six singles gave Griffins an automatic 2-0 edge at the start of individual play. There, Garcia Arguelles added the next Scarlet and Gold point in the third fight with a 6-0, 6-0, win at number three singles (3-0). Broville followed with the match-winner, scoring a 6-2, 6-1, win in the second singles flight (4-0). Covic added Chestnut Hill College's fifth point (5-0) with her 6-1, 6-1, win at number one singles, but the Cougars broke the shutout with a win at number five singles (5-1; 6-3, 1-6, 10-7), before senior Nicole Yang (Blue Bell, Pa.) ended the match with her enduring 4-6, 6-2, 10-6, win at number four singles.
 
Chestnut Hill College briefly breaks from their CACC schedule to host Kutztown University in a 1:30 p.m. match on Monday, September 23.
