The Chestnut Hill College Women's Tennis team recorded a decisive 7-0 win Saturday afternoon over Dominican University at the CHC Tennis courts in Philadelphia, completing a season series sweep of the Chargers.
The Griffins improve to 7-2 overall and 4-2 in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference games. The Chargers fall to 2-7 overall and 0-6 in league play.
Chestnut Hill swept the three doubles matches to take an early 1-0 lead in the contest. The Griffins' #1 doubles team of
Romi Meirovich and
Carlota Garcia Arguelles recorded a 6-0 shutout of Steffy Espejo and Nora Frederick to open the match.
Alison Isaac and
Nele Haag followed with a 6-2 win at #2 doubles and
Annika Wise and
Lottie Allin completed the sweep with a 7-6 (7-3) win at #3 doubles. Isaac and Haag improve to 9-0 as a doubles team this season.
In singles play, Haag gave the Griffins a 2-0 lead with a 6-1, 6-0 win over Vanya Tyagi at #4 singles and Wise made the score 3-0 with a 6-2, 6-0 win over Frederick at #5 singles.
Isaac clinched the match with a 6-4, 6-2 win over Bipasha Mehn at #2 singles, making the score 4-0. Mehn had defeated Isaac in the earlier meeting between the two teams.
Meirovich needed a tiebreaker in the second set to defeat Rupkatha Mukherjee at #3 singles. Meirovich was down in the tiebreaker 3-0 before winning seven of the next eight points to win the tiebreaker 7-4 and take the match 6-3, 7-6 (7-4).
Claudia Rasilla remained undefeated on the season (6-0) with a 6-2, 6-1 win over Ava O'Brien at #6 singles and Garcia Arguelles completed the sweep with a straight set 6-1, 6-4 win over Espejo.
The Chestnut Hill College Women's Tennis team returns to action on Monday for a pivotal conference match, hosting first place Wilmington university at the CHC tennis courts. First serve is set for 2:00 p.m.
