Liam McCann scored his first career sock-trick (6 goal game) leading nine different Chestnut Hill College Men's Lacrosse players who scored as the Griffins opened conference play with a 20-9 win at Felician University in Rutherford, New Jersey Friday afternoon

The Griffins improve to 5-5 overall and 1-0 in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference games. The Golden Falcons fall to 5-5 overall and 1-2 in league play.

McCann (Edmonton, Alberta) scored once in the first quarter and again in the second and had four of Chestnut Hill's six goals in the third quarter. The freshman attack also added two assists to finish the game with eight points.

Maurice Kelly (Fort Saskatchewan, Alberta) returned to action after missing the Griffins last game and put four shots into the net and added an asset to finish with five points.Â
Jack Clyne (Islip Terrace, N.Y.) also returned to action and had two goals and two assists for four points  while
Ben Revak (Aston, Pa.) and
Cade Johnson (Manahawkin, N.J.) scored two goals apiece.Â
J.R. Howell (East Meadow, N.Y.), Mike Smith (Center Valley, Pa.), Zachary Whalen (Emmaus, Pa.) and
Sam Slater (Dovel, Del.) also scored a goal for the Griffins. Howell added three assists to finish with four points.

Kyle Gartenmeyer (Holland, Pa.), Chase Snyder (Millsboro, Del.) and McCann led the team with five ground balls apiece while Howell had a game-high three caused turnovers

Austin Jones (Courtice, Ontario) had five saves in goal over the first three quarters to earn the win.Â
Julius Sorino (Shamong, N.J.) played the fourth quarter, notching four saves.

A strong first quarter by Chestnut Hill saw the Griffins outscore their hosts 7-1 in the period. The Griffins tallied the first five scores to take a 5-0 lead before the Golden Falcons got on the board with a goal at the 3:52 mark.  Revak added a goal with 1:35 left and assisted on Clyne's second goal with 38 seconds left to round out the first quarter offense.

Defense took over for the second quarter as both teams combined for just five goals, the lowest scoring quarter in the game. Felician scored twice in the first 3:48 to pull within four 7-3 before the Griffins came back with three straight goals. McCann's second of the game at the 3:27 mark rounded out the scoring and gave the Griffins a 10-3 lead heading into halftime.

Howell opened the scoring in the third quarter taking a pass from Smith to make the score 11-3. McCann then had the first of his four goals at the 10:24 mark to give the Griffins a 12-4 lead. Felician's Robert Grasso followed with his fourth goal of the game before the Griffins scored four unanswered goals, three by McCann and one by Kelly (assisted by McCann) to take a 16-5 lead. Felician tallied one more goal in the quarter to cut the lead to 16-6.

The two teams exchanged goals back and fourth in the fourth quarter with the Golden falcons never getting closer than nine goals. Leading 18-9, Kelly and Slater rounded out the scoring with goals 45 seconds apart with under five minutes left to make the final score 20-9.

For the game, the Griffins outshot the Golden Falcons 50-27 (36-18 on goal) and recorded 24 successful clears (out of 25 opportunities). Felician had 34 turnovers (21 unforced) while the Griffins committed just 16 (nine unforced). The griffins also held a slight 50-45 edge in ground balls while the Golden Falcons won 25 of 33 total faceoffs.

The Chestnut Hill College Men's Lacrosse team returns t action on Wednesday, April 6, 2022 when they host Dominican College at Victory Field #1 in Lafayette Hill. First faceoff is set for 7:00 p.m.
