Women's Tennis Defeats Lightning for First Conference Win of Season

A come-from-behind victory in doubles play set the tone for the remainder of the match as the Chestnut Hill College Women's tennis team defeated Goldey-Beacom college 6-1 Tuesday afternoon at the CHC Tennis courts.

The Griffins are now 2-1 on the season and 1-1 in Central Atlantic collegiate conference matches.  Goldey-Beacom Falls to 0-1 both overall and in conference play.

The Griffins and the Lightning had split their first two doubles contests with Ali Isaac and Nele Haag scoring a 6-3 win at #2 doubles and GBC's Mary Hendin-Walker and Jess Sanzo recording a 6-4 win over Lottie Allin and Annika Wise at #3 doubles, leaving the #1 doubles match to decide which team earns the doubles point.

Carlota Garcia Arguelles and Romi Meirovich trailed Maria Bruno and Elizabeth Mova 5-4 in the #1 doubles contest before rallying to win three straight games to win the match 7-5 and give the Griffins the doubles point and a 1-0 lead in the match.

Meirovich made the score 2-0 with a 7-5, 6-4 over Sanzo at #5 singles while Garcia Arguelles followed with a straight set 6-0, 6-4 win at #1 singles to give the Griffins a 3-0 lead.  Haag then clinched the match for Chestnut Hill, scoring a 6-3, 6-1 win over Bruno at #3 singles and make the score 4-0.

Hendin-Walker got the Lightning's only singles win at #4 singles defeating Wise.  Isaac defeated Mova at #2 singles, 6-2, 6-4 and Claudia Rasilla remained undefeated in singles play with a 7-5, 6-4 win at #6 singles to round out the scoring.

The Chestnut Hill College Women's Tennis team is back in action on Wednesday, September 14, 2022 when they travel to face Bloomsburg University.  First serve is set for 2:00 p.m.
