Nine members of the Chestnut Hill College Baseball team have been named to the 2023 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Baseball All-Academic Team in an announcement made by the conference office on Wednesday.
In order to be eligible for the CACC All-Academic Teams, student-athletes must be at least a sophomore academically and athletically, must have been a student-athlete at their current school for at least two semesters, and must have achieved a cumulative grade point average (GPA) of 3.50 or higher through the preceding semester.
The nine Chestnut Hill players were among 58 players named to the team, representing all 11 schools that play baseball within the conference. CHC's nine players represented the second highest total among all 11 schools with Jefferson's 11 honorees the only team that had more.
Three repeat winners were among the nine Griffin ballplayers honored. Redshirt junior
RJ Huth earned all-academic team honors for the third time while juniors
Greg Ianelli and
Aiden Nesemeier were two time recipients. Named to the CACC Baseball all-Academic team for the first time are redshirt sophomores
Marlon Rose and
AJ Capille along with sophomores
Justin Geiger, Colby Seelig, Daniel Talbot and
Chris Urbanik.
Rose, Capille, Nesemeier and Ianelli were 2023 inductees into Chi Alpha Sigma, the national student athlete honor society. Huth was a 2022 Chi Alpha Sigma inductee.  The five players were also named D2 Athletic Director's Association (D2ADA) Academic Achievement Award winners for 2021-22. Â
Ianelli has earned Dean's list and Chestnut Hill Athletic Academic Honor roll status five times during his career at Chestnut Hill while Huth, Nesemeier and Capille have earned Dean's List and CHC Athletic Academic Honor roll status four times.
Geiger and Seelig have appeared on the CHC Athletic Academic Honor Roll and Dean's List in each of their first three semesters at the college. Rose and Talbot have earned both honors twice during their athletic careers as a Griffin while Urbanik earned Dean's List and CHC Athletic Academic Honor Roll status in Fall of 2021 as a freshman.
Since the start of the program in 2008, 38 different Griffin baseball players have been named to the CACC Baseball All Academic Team a total of 68 times. Huth is among the ten three-time honorees while Ianelli and Nesemeier are among the ten players who have been recognized twice by the conference.
